It's like carrot-on-a-stick game design. You're not meant to play the game just for the sake of playing it. You just go through the motions they want you to do and get your loot box or your platinum whatever the fuck.

There's no freedom in the game's design, they just want you to play it exactly this specific way because demographics, and focus groups, and profit margins, etc. Then as soon as the game stops being the fresh new thing everyone realizes there's nothing interesting under the hood to play with and leaves.
