If the engine is accessible to a lot of people it's obvious there will be a lot more content, and of course, a lot more shitty stuff. It's extremely simple but I'm not surprised people around here don't understand such a thing. It's like blaming GameMaker or RPG Maker for having tons of shitty games.

Unity is far from perfect, but if you're indie and want a 3D engine, it's by far the best option.

And even then, I think Greenlight is to blame here and how easily exploited the system was, not the engine and not even the shitty games and developers themselves. People have been making shovelware and cheap lazy shit since the start of the software industry and that's never doing to change. Greenlight was the one that opened the door to those scammers, not Unity.

>>385058664
>encourage
How so? Even if I think Steam is the one to blame, they already removed Greenlight (took them way too fucking long though) and Unity just wants accessibility at all costs. That will always comes at the cost of average quality considering pretty much anyone can drag shit into the scene and do stuff, but they probably consider it a lesser evil as long as few devs care to put enough work into them with very few resources, which was always the point of the engine.

I've been working on my third game for the past 7 months and it would have been impossible without this engine, even if I admit it's pretty shitty in some aspects, but it's definitely worth it in the end.
>>
>>385059005
if you can make shit on blueprints you can do the same on c++ if you know the api, there's no fucking difference, but nondevs tend to think that c++ is rocket science or some shit compared to blueprints for some reason.
one is visual scripting and faster to develop with while trading off some performance, c++ is obviously more performance friendly.
>>
>>385059256
>they already removed Greenlight
Direct is even fucking worse.
>>
>>385059173
Blueprints are awesome for prototyping, the function names are the same as the C++ codebase so transfering over is usually simple, plus you can totally ignore them at that point if you choose, but can build a whole project with only BPs, the only minor performance difference I've read is that casting references between classes is a bit slower, not even noticeable
>>
>>385059493
Time will tell, but I hopefully it won't. Now it works similarly to the Apple Store, with actual an Valve QA team making sure it meets certain quality requirements.

Lots of assumptions with that, you even say it like it's a simple thing to do. I don't have the time, nor the knowledge, nor the interest in it. I'm not a programmer and I don't want to be even if I do know some C#.
That's what I mean with accessibility, if I'm not a programmer, I can focus on the stuff that I genuinely like and want to improve professionally, so I can get a job in what I'm passionate about. Of course, that applies to anyone else that has made a 15 minute tutorial, but it's a price to pay that I wouldn't change, since it gives people like me decent opportunities.

So, if I can't afford the money to hire a programmer and I just want to focus on polishing my 3D, level design and narrative skills I should just stop making games because it's not a "pure" engine?

That's the whole point of Unity. It's okay if from a programmer point of view you don't like it, but that's what makes it so useful to people like me.

>>385062371
Obviously a lot of people do that, just like they do with Unreal Store, Mixamo, Turbosquid or pretty much every place with paid assets, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. I understand when some programmers just want some art and don't want to invest their own time into it or can't afford an artist. Personally I only use a couple of plugins for pretty complex programming stuff that's simply way beyond my reach, the rest of the art and coding I do it myself. There's no need to go into extremes of "all unity games are made with paid assets", even if there are some cases.

Just because kids download Unity and use assets to make shit games, it doesn't make Unity a bad engine choice.

Next you'll tell me that I shouldn't write in C because some script kiddie made a hello world app that one time and real men make their own languages.

Anon that's why developers have always kept the same game engine they made for a particular series. This is literally how it's always been.

Apparently very hard to understand, to be expected from a frogposter.

I'm not a programmer and I don't want to be. I'm from the design part of game development, nothing to do with programming most of the time.

And nice phallacy inventing stuff to proof your point, plus the patronizing tone. I'm not making a 3D shooter and I never said I was and I'm not even new at this. I've done 3 games by myself before (plus 2 more from gamejams if that counts) and worked professionally for a couple of years (shitty jobs though), and have almost 5 years of experience overall. Still not good enough to get into a nice company, so that's why I'm improving my skills making my own game without wasting time in things I will never get a job at.

Which reminds me, do you have any idea how fucking skilled you have to be to get a good programming job in the industry? I'm sure you don't.
>>
>>385050190
How do you decompile a unity project and see everything in unity? That's not even possible
>>
>>385064948
Yeah, you have to be a decent programmer to get a decent job you fucking tard. Relying on a bunch precoded shit is for literal children.
Also, making an engine that's well optimized will land you a job a lot faster than being the idea guy.

Rust. Or at least legacy rust which was a cheap game made with unity assets. Still fun as fuck. New one was okay until 2016

> that video
Jesus fucking christ.

I am not going to say that JS is remotely as efficient as C# or the advantages and improvements of Unity 4 to 5 were not welcomed if not almost critically needed.

I am going to say that YandereDev sucks at code efficiency. He sucks at it so fucking bad.

The video is straight fucking lies. The improved compiling of Yandere Sim was less about moving from JS to C# than it was the measures the transcribers took in cutting out fat and redundency of the code durring the translation.

There is nothing. Nothing in Yandere Sim that should require more than 4gb to run stable.

Then you have no business making video games. Get the fuck over it.

That's why you hire someone else to do it faggot. Having an engine specialized for whatever game you're trying to use is better then just copy pasting a bunch of shit in a meme game maker studio.

Nice spelling and reddit spacing.

A job in what? In programming, obviously. And what do I want to work on? Not programming. Also, 3D art, level design or narrative design now counts as idea guy? You're just giving real programmers a bad image.

>>385065572
Nah, okay I was going to write a long response but when someone is so retarded it fails at such basic understanding and reading comprehension is the time when I just stop.

I recommend you an exercise every morning, repeat 5 times "Programmers are not artists. Artists are not programmers. For making games you usually need both. If one of them is unavailable, paying for their services is understandable either by hiring them or buying their work. Now I'm less retarded, thank you anon."
>>
>>385065983
make a well written main character with very specific life details. Don't make him super special or anything that turns it into a power fantasy, but lots and lots of details so he isnt an ultra generic weeb nice guy. Making a real characters is the best way to stop people from self inserting.

Hell, if you can make the women genuinely engaging well developed characters as well the game could be legitimately interesting Solid characters with actual arcs on top of porn sounds like a recipe to me. Then again good writing is a lot easier said then done

thats pretty debatable. Just as an example id argue something like making a platformer "feel" good is far more art than science. Or how about properly balancing a fighting game? That's not something that can be solved purely with numbers. Its about experience, intuition, and creativity. Again, seems more like an art than a science.

>>385067668
Not saying it's hard, I'm just not interested in it, just like you're probably not interested in drawing and muh artistry wahhh. Nothing wrong with it, but that shouldn't stop you from making games and even getting a job at a company.

I know from working with them for some years, that they don't have their head in their ass and actually understand and appreciate the work of the designers, like any professional person who's worth a damn would.

K. Here's an analogy

> notice how we greentext
> efficient
> gets job done

Now compare that to an atypical reddit poster.

Notice how it appears as though I am lecturing on a podium. As if I am giving a mental monologue.

The cadence of the internal voice in your head as you read the words in this post.

The unneccessary spacing. Various line breaks. It's cumbersome and time wasting. For, like no reason. Where was the poster going with this.

For no reason. Seems redundent, no? Maybe. Actually, yes. There are redundencies in the content of this post.

Anyways, where was I going with this? Oh yeah, I remember now. Wait, now I have forgot.

Fuck it, here's a picture of Anri. Too bad it's a thumbnail, but we appear to have hot a float limit.

This is how YandereDev codes.
>>
>>385068695
>I'm above programming

And when did I ever say that? In that very post I even imply how equal respect is crucial. Just because we're from different profiles doesn't mean I'm against you, just like I don't think of myself like some kind of visionary artist or anything like that, I almost wish I had that much confidence in my skills.
You do your thing and I'll do mine, and hopefully the result will be good or at least we'll all have learned something meaningful in the process, that's one of the greatest things about gamedev.
