What about a soulsborne game set in the far future?

It could take place on the capitol planet of an galactic empire during the final stage of it's collapse. Most of the planet is in ruins, some places are getting repaired but the automated systems can't repair them fast enough. Biological population decimated due to starvation. AI/hybrid population cannot cope with it's creators dying so most of them shut down or go berserk.

Bonfires replaced with with advanced 3D printing stations, need to feed them materials or they either don't revive you or cut corners and you lose out on skills.

Environment would be as much as a threat as regular enemies, with fires,toxic gas leaks, explosions, whole supersized buildings collapsing, various kinds of reactors losing containment; area could be flooded by radiation, emp blasts would knock out anything electronic.

You could rip off a lot of wh40k weapons and either make them sleeker/rougher depending on the style the game goes for.

It's the other way around. And I like Dark Souls 2, in fact as we shitpost I am looking at the wiki deciding what my next run will be. But don't act like that game didn't suffer in development hell before they rushed it out. The game is objectively worse than Dark Souls 1. Not him, but after a lot of observation I think the best way to tell if /v/ or a majority of /v/ likes a game is to be there when it releases. That's when most /v/irgins play said game and vomit their opinion here so you can somewhat measure the consensus. After the release most people just play other games and lurk other threads, so I'd say the opinions of a few obsessive Souls "fans" that keep the threads up hardly matter in the long run.

There's a good reason that most people think /v/ loves DaS3 because miyazaki and hates DaS2 respectively (hates in the sense of relative comparison with other Souls games, not other games in general).

I played all the GE games and FW, and they're making this. Cutscenes are pretty subdued in the games if not a little cliched like most Jap shit. It's the gameplay you need to be wary of.

But there are some aspects I think that 3 nailed better than the other games, such as the bosses, the good ones anyway. The combat is ok in GE not great. They fixed it in FW which was a lot more fast paced but then fucked the weapon systems with RNG bullshit. So their track record is a bit iffy if not acceptable. The cutscenes were enough to keep you if you were into it but it never reached MGS4 levels of words words words.
