I use sennheiser 380s for my headset and a snoball mic for talking, so I don't use a "gaming headset"

I used to think like this until my onboard soundcard broke and I decided to buy a soundcard with headphone amp, just a shitty headset gained lots of audio quality, so I purchased sum headphones and the audio quality improved a bit more.
Still, it is not worth it to purchase 1000€ senheisers, just a 100-150€ pair that is good for audio separation so you know where shots are coming from.

I'm actually a big fan of my Sony Platinum Headsets for my PS4. They're incredibly comfy and much more durable than the Golds (which were trash) and the noise cancellation on them is pretty damn good. Sound quality is good enough, and the 7.1 VSS does seem good enough, plus the audio out is also decent enough according to people I play with. Not only that, but ease of use and integration into the PS4 system alone makes it worth it.

most video games are gonna compress voice chat online anyway so how about you not be a fucking idiot instead. inb4 i use discord and have no compression! because you just dont know what the fuck you are talking about. if you are streaming music you dont need top of the line phones. you can still buy and use as expensive of shit as you want though. nothing wrong with that if you are an american. but you would probably be better off saving a buck and picking up a gaming headset for identical performance.

There's a sweet spot where entry studio headphones are, which is about 150 euro, altough sometimes it is cheaper, I buy from that range of price (this last time it was senheisers actually), they offer amazing sound quality and great directional audio, pretty good for dolby headphone and similar technologies.
Also voice chat is the least of my concerns as I'm not going to talk with singers that have pretty voices, it's for game audio.
