More and more, and it even got commented on during pools, we've seen the cream rise from the crop in a way, where I could probably tell you a realistic top 20 right now barely even thinking about it. There haven't been many surprises, and it sort of takes away from me being a spectator. Me watching mango dunk 8-0 on some kid isn't fun, and props to the gods but as a spectator im hungry for new blood. I want to see Leffen win something, or SFAT or The Moon, or Plup, someone new. Two things really. First is that the fgc community and the smash community formed as two separate entities. The smash community being formed online through smashboards and having lan byoc tournaments. The FGC was formed by the communities that frequented arcades and competed against each other there. The second is the difference in execution. Both the goal of the games and the method that you do inputs are different. That being said, the core aspects of fighting games and smash are one and the same. Things like spacing, pressure, optimization and conditioning are universal concepts. Anyone who says otherwise is probably the equivalent of a stream monster and doesn't actually compete in or truly understand fighting games.

It's not a fighting game. Games that are good that have playerbases don't get into Evo because of Smash. Were it not for Smash Skullgirls would have gotten play a few years at Evo.
