Hideo Kojima kept making Metal Gear games because Konami told him too for decades until they eventually fired him. Also he can't code.

Yoko Taro refused to work on Drakengard 2 because he didn't like the direction Square wanted to make it in, then made Nier to not only write Drakengard 2 out of canon but also make any game that takes place after Drakengard now or in the future completely irrelevant.

Also Phantom Pain was the biggest disappointment in years.
