There is 8 pieces of armor I think and they all have 3 different damage protection levels and weight. There are also weight classes that govern stamina speed I think.

Some moves also scale with the weight of a character, although the impact to both health loss and damage increased seemed marginal so there is nothing stopping anyone from going /fa/

The appeal seems to be the journey and build up of your character. There is apparently a story and lore, and at least one confirmed end-game PVE dungeon, so there's actual effort and content given to making it an actual game and not just an endless series of PVP matches.

However no matter how hard they sell the PVE side of things, the main draw is always going to be for the PVP, so who knows what'll get added as time goes by, if anything.

Surprisingly everyone in the beta was really well behaved but that might just be because it was a beta and everyone wanted to test stuff. Regardless the focus of the game is queuing up for 1v1 duels at bonfires so rampant PvP won't be a big problem. You can also opt to just play solo if you want.

It depends on your moveset. Moves have STR / DEX / Mobility multipliers. Basically moves that look acrobatic or technical usually get bonuses based on your DEX and mobility rating and brawler style stuff gets a lot from STR.

As for the For Honor comparisons, well it's way more technical than FH. The true endgame is making a combat deck that flows well, can adapt to whatever the opponent is doing and stays unpredictable - and also reading the other's decks so you can counter them. It's simple but still pretty deep.

I could customize my combo chains to do the thing I wanted though (one of them starts off with a hyper armour attack to counter aggressive people, another one has a guard breaker attack easily accessible to it through using heavy attack any time during the combo, etc).

There's going to be about 150 moves in the game. Everyone can learn every move in the game. You have four different stances that are made up of three different moves that chain together. Those are your combos. Each move leads into another stance and you can change stances on the fly. There's a fourth move slot in each stance that you can alternatively use in the middle of any combo.

It's a little more involved than that.

The 'alternate attack' is determined by what type of attack you use it directly after. Certain attacks have certain orientations (i.e. one attack will put you in top right stance, another will put you in bottom left stance, etc).

Say the combo string for your top right stance is Top Right attack > bottom left attack > bottom right attack.

Say you use the alternate attack after the second attack. The alternate attack will be whatever the alt. attack in your bottom left stance is. Continuing to attack with standard attacks will initiate the bottom left stance combo.

Say you didn't use an alternate attack, and just kept pressing standard attack. Using the same combo from up you would go Top right combo (Top right attack, bottom left attack, bottom right attack) and since the final attack is a bottom right attack, continuing to attack will progress through the Bottom Right stance combo, etc.

this is really annoying to explain without having dedicated names for each stance.

It works pretty similarly to Blade Symphony but there's a lot more depth to the mechanics. You have a limited amount of stamina to use for attacking and defending that needs to be managed constantly. You can feint whenever you want which is important at high level play. All the characters have different defensive options that can punish your opponent if they make a mistake or if you can predict their next move. Certain moves will cause you to avoid different kinds of attacks or interrupt your opponent.

There's probably more to the game than that given we only had a few days to play around with a limited moveset.

I know it feels cliche to say, but this is one of those rare games where the best deck in the game really is the one that you make yourself. i don't see what feint has to do with parry. The recovery time on a failed parry is short enough to either parry again or block whatever attack you follow up the feint with.

I feel that way about feint in general, the only way i see current feint being useful is trying to bait your enemy into using haymaker to hyper armour your feinted attack and then parrying them. Any defensive action your opponent takes in regards to your feinted attack is quick enough to take another defensive action to any follow up attacks.

When I was playing with absorb I started getting more aware of how good of an access I have to short or heavy hits, and then with windfall how many of them had a high or low profile or could catch people dodging sideways, there's a lot of fun puzzle solving involved.
