What's the verdict. At only $10 I'd say it's still overpriced for what little content you get.
It's simplistic and definitely a 'baby's first civ builder' kinda a game. I wouldn't pay more than $5 for the thing. I only bought it because steam was jizzing itself over it.

What are your guy's thoughts?
>>
it's shit
>>
Nice shill

I tried, I really didn't like how it works, how it looks and how it runs. Its not very intuitive honestly and feels like a simple background clicky click simulator with little to no thought going on.
>>
>>384939646
>Nice shill
I said it was overpriced, assman.
>with little to no thought going on
I have to play on the hardest difficulty otherwise it feels too slow.
>>
>>384939850
Even on the hardest mode its not that difficult to really set up and walk away from. Nothing really goes wrong that you can't simply fix and expansion doesn't feel such. It feels like opening locked gates at best.

Also the shill thng is a meme yo ufucking newfag shitcunt wongermonger
>>
If i expected Banished with a little more depth, how disappointed would i be?
>>
>>384940231
Very, in fact. Just keep playing banished.
If you have a sister or a gf you want to get into gaming.
Buy this for them as a present. It's a legit baby's first civ builder.
>>
Seems to suffer from the same problems as Banished.
>>
>>384940115
>It's a meme you dip
I will never accept that. Everyone is an assmuncher until they stop memeing.
>expansion
This game doesn't deserve one. What else can you add to this. It's done son.
>>
>>384940395
Banished has intuitive situations and real problems like nofood and ...overpopulaton. This shits just "dont have houses? byebye"

>>384940506
No, expansion as in the game doesnt really go from "low tech" to "high tech" very well. You might as well build 1 of every production building and your good to go no reason to fix population or really go out and build a "city"
>>
>>384940395
I only bought it because I'm low on cash, and I thought it looked like fun.
It's mediocre and way overpriced.
I'll still play it, but only until I can scrap together enough cash to buy something better.
>>
>>384940638
Yeah I only really made the thread to warn other Anon's to not waste more than 5 dollars on the thing.

Even if you get raided, or a dragon Attacks, you don't really get hit too hard, as settlers will come back. Happiness is probably averaged so it's will only hit zero if you deliberately try to lose.
>>
>>384940231
Banished would have been a whole lot better with the ability to enact town policies.
>>
>>384939505
Are there any good games like this out there? A city builder where shit can come and attack you?
>>
>>384943290
Not really, they are either way too autistic or way too simple theres no real middle ground
>>
>>384942980
Banished would be better with bandit raids, or local rulers trying to flex on your tiny hovel.
>>
>>384943346
>>384943290

Anno 2070 was good.
And so was off world trading company (Though that wasn't really a civ builder.)
>>
>>384943474
and those are complex as fuck
>>
>>384943290
DORF FORTRESS
>>
>>384943290
Caesar 3 has barbarian/enemy attacks on some maps IIRC. There's also some really indie game called Towns which has roaming enemies.
>>
>>384943546
Not really.
Anno is just about setting up trade networks between Islands and having one island as your main city where nothing is produced just consumed. Your satellite islands will just have factories and nothing else, but maybe some navy or defenses.

Offworld Trading company is just about watching the price of goods and building factories to corner the high-value goods markets.
You don't even need to go after your competition. You can, but it only serves to waste resources to do things that are easily counterable.
Once you take one company out you've pretty much won the game because you'll be producing so much money that competition can't keep up and you become a monoply after destroying your competitors.

Those take 1 hour tops to get good at.
>>
>>384943676
Lately, raids are non-existent. So it's become too easy.
>>
I constantly see Caesar 3 praised in these threads but my gog copy doesnt run on my machine for some reason.
>>
>>384944728
I've played 4 and it's shit.
Though, 3 looks a little too dated for my tastes.
>>
>>384944728
I know GOG copies are supposed to be plug and play compatible, but have you tried running it as admin in xp sp2/windows 2000 mode? I can't run Pharaoh without lag but C3 runs perfectly fine on Windows 7
>>
>>384944904
I did, and thats what is mystifying me. Even then it just goes to black screen for a moment and then shuts down.

Have you tried a non-GOG version?
>>
>>384939505
$10 is good enough for it. That's my 2ยข
>>
>>384945543
I havent as I dont have it. Maybe I need to get that then.
>>
>>384945616
>$10
Is too much. $10 games need to at least have an option to customize frequencies of raids and dragon attacks. Options to increase the difficulty of the island. Not the three baby difficulties you are given.

These are things that cost next to nothing to implement. So any argument stating that they are hard to implement is moot.

They suck, the game is priced too high. They should have had more customization options. The game itself is even buggy. It's version 1.04 and still full of bugs.

There is no argument for its price tag other than you're a stupid nigger who knows nothing about video games.
>>
>>384939505
I pirated it.

It's shit.

>look up some cool building patterns online
>find guides describinig the optimal designs for everything, manipulating walker pathing and so on
>can't design cozy cities anymore because it has to be minmaxed
>do the same with anno, sim city and so on
Autism is a curse. They need to make civ/city builders that focus more on the comfy than the autistic minmaxing. Aesthetics shouldn't have to be neglected for optimal play.
>>
it's shit and feels like a tablet game
play northgard instead, it's ten times better
>>
>>384946834
>feels like a tablet game
I'd argue it's just barely not a tablet game. Northgard is a little too early to call. As it stands now unfinished with more content coming.
It's still better than kingdoms and castles.
>>
>>384946834
>early access

Serves me right for being interested
>>
>>384946754
Problem in caesar 3 is that at some point you have to minimax.
There is a late game mission that you cannot win without a perfect city. Never solved that one, was something with "long" or so in the name.
>>
>>384943290
There's Stonehearth. That's all I can think of though.
>>
>>384947393
I remember C3 being pretty strict when it came to city efficiency (unlike say, Anno 1404) but it gets that bad later on? I'll admit I never progressed that far, beat a handful of missions. Maybe I'll pick it up again, but I never did like the Deity and maintenance system in it. It feels like you have to build an ungodly amount of temples, prefectures, engineers guilds, doctor's houses etc just to keep the city running. Very unaesthetic, Anno 1404 is more comfy in that regard.
>>
>>384939505
It's very short. It has very little depth. The art style is debatable.

t. just finished playing the game
>>
>>384939505
looks and plays worse than banished
what is the point of playing this if we already have banished?
>>
>>384947686
Oh, and I forgot that it has zero replayability.
>>
I pirated it and after a few hours I had built a massive kingdom able to repel attacks from both enemy types on the hardest map.

The only thing this game is good at is making me want to play a more complex and interesting game.
>>
>>384947712
>what is the point of playing this if we already have banished
If you already have banished, or Anno, or off-world trading company, or even a bag of Fritos. You shouldn't buy kingdoms and castles.

That's why I made this thread. To warn Anons not to buy into the hype.
>>
>>384947874
>The only thing this game is good at is making me want to play a more complex and interesting game.

That was my point. If you have a gf, or a little sister, give them a copy if you want them to get into Civ builders.

It's a good gateway game. It's shitty at everything else.
>>
>>384947712
Banished sucks dicks you cuck, call me when games like this actually surpasses Settlers 6
>>
So what's the best way to add replay value to a city builder? Heavy emphasis on terrain and resources with randomized maps? Difficult with lots and lots of game over traps like Dorf Fort?
>>

Most games with massive replay value have rougelike elements.
Randomness increases freshness.

Sounds pretty reasonable. My biggest gripe with Anno 1404 is that every game is more or less exactly the same, down to the build order. It's just cozy for an hour or so and then you remember how boring it is. Also, not much challenge to it.

>>
>>384948176
Too much to list, but larger maps would help, it would be nice to be able to build multiple cities that produce specific resources and have to manage trade between these cities, a capitalism system would be nice, Dwarf Fortress has one but it's disabled because of it never worked properly, a growing pains system would be nice, and districts with urbanization points allowing you to build up.

For Kingdoms obviously a larger map size, a competing Kingdom, more resources, trade, more complex resource trees, more raid types, better military system, issues arising for denser cities, the ability to staff structures with more people, the ability to set stockpile paths and limits, such as being able to set stockpiles to take and only take from a specific stockpile and to set quotas, more food types with bonuses for having diverse food types, an art style.

>>384948257
Call me when the comf and depth is surpassed, of the entire series, the only other game as good is Anno, and oh wait it's made by the same developers.

>>384949427
Settlers 6 was full of bugs, as well as having a shallow economic system.

Anno is great, but it's clear you're underage b8 trying to hang out with the big boys. You and Jamal should leave.
>>
>>384949856
It's still unsurpassed overall.
>>
>>384949952
Nigga, Offworld Trading company blows it out the fucking water.
And it's not even a civ builder. Yet it still has more civ builder elements then Settlers 6.
>>
>>384949427
Almost sounds like a little bit like Spore but not shallow as shit. Either way I agree that the scale should be very large, physical space shouldn't be a limiting factor.
>>
>>384950110
Offworld Trading company is for the most part a board game, it is not the same as building small hamlets with economies, and the resource tree in Offworld trading company is not deep.
>>
>>384950345
And yet it's still better than Settlers 6.

The economy is dynamic. You compete for resources with competitors. The only real winners are the consumers and no matter how big and bad you get, if you aren't careful with your shares in the company someone will buttfuck you out of control of the company.

Settlers....MMMM, more deer meat me lord. Can you send pajeet to find some more resource rich areas? Oh shit, a bandit camp. What's that, no military yet? Welp time to reset or pay 400 gold every other season for all eternity and never have an army.

Truly the superior game huh?
>>
>>384950809
Holy shit, I just realized you're fucking retarded and are trying to argue that because one game has a dynamic economy it's better than another game that people like for different reasons.

Also it sounds like you just plain fail at the game, holy shit you're retarded on so many levels
>>
>>384951242
>I can't come up with reasons to defend my shitty game so you must be a retard.

You know that I've done nothing but list reasons why you're wrong. Everything I've stated can be validated, you're just a faggot who can't admit that he has shit taste.

I tip my fedora at you nigger jew. You can't say shit and you know it.

And FYI, Economics IS the main antagonist in any civ game you assman. With bad economic system, you have a broken shitty civ builder game.
>>
>>384951646
No you've listed a single fault and then have completely ignored that the game isn't just an economic system, you're fucking retarded to the point where you are incapable of realizing that you are.
>>
The game seriously need more content. It gets boring after 2 hours or so.
Also the only enemies are vikings and dragons.

The game looks really nice but I think it was released as a rushed project. But it seems the devs are going to keep regular updates.

the only thing this game does better than banished is the raids which makes you want to play for longer than banished because of them.

I got up to 1000 population in this game because defending the city was fun, but the most I ever got in Banished was 200 before calling it quits because I got bored. Banished still has more content, but the raids and castle gimmick keeps you playing this for longer

If banished had the raids gimmick and castle building it'd be a 10/10 instead of an 8.5/10

Thats the worst thing about these games I absolutely adore the the cartoony soft blocky style but the games that have it are just devoid of content.
