Why are graphics from the early-2000s so comfy?
>comfy
Stop.
Because you played them when you were 13.

cuz they were clean, now everything is AAA overdesigned realistic over decorated
>>384929427
enough details to not look like complete ass
and simultaneously
not detailed enough to attempt "photorealism" so they leave some room for your imagination to fill in the blanksalso nostalgia
>comfy
>fun
>nostalgic

this. modern games just add as much trash and clutter as possible to make it more "realistic"
The 3 trilogy looks great. Most of the best looking games of all time I'd name are from the 2000-2005 period. Modern games really do look like dog shit. I honestly, genuinely believe the likes of Horizon looks significantly worse than games 15 years older than it.

ask me how I know you are a newfag who didn't lurk enogh and desperately tries to fit in

They represent unlimited possibility. We were just on the verge of computers being powerful enough to do giant worlds, and we were treated to games like Morrowind, VTM:B, GTA 3, Deus Ex, Thief, etc. This was before games were dumbed down into being corridor simulators with no exploration or deviation from a linear path. Each game had personality.

Yikes
>>384929427
Because they were not so super complex and game world felt more in tone with the characters and story. Too many game worlds now a days feel artificial as fuck and lifeless.
Am I the only one who finds overly detailed 3d games confusing because all that visual clutter is kinda hard to process? It usually gets better once I have played for a few hours.
That's one of the reasons I like older, more "primitive" looking 3d games.
I guess you could say they are more comfy.
Then:Effort and care with the limited technology.
Now: Throw all the shaders and post processing in a pile, mash them up, and hopefully have something that looks good for marketing.
I quite vividly remember thinking GTA 3 looked and felt the complete opposite of comfy. It was cold and empty, and you screenshot certainly seems that way.

>Why are graphics from the early-2000s so comfy?
Why did you choose a 2011-version of the game to make your point?
I wouldn't describe as comfy. They looked like shit then and now. I assume it's just nostalgia talking as less and less of /v/ was even alive before the PS2 came out.
>>384929427
Because then graphical cards were not powerful enough to do photorealistic graphics, so artists actually tried to impress with art direction, design and style of graphics.
VTBM's graphics are still one of the most immersive today is are good factions

god, witcher 1 aged horribly
Mostly nostalgia but I also think it has to do with the fact that developers were still experimenting with 3D and things were just more "simple". Unlike today where everything is hyper realistic and matured.
This might be my opinion but it's like back in the 80's movies didn't use much CGI and relied more on clever tricks and animatronics. It just had a different feeling to it; it's mostly due to nostalgia I guess and being around what was once comfortable.
That said I agree they were comfy

Games lack soul today, back then you were impressed by other things than graphics, i think Dark Souls popularity came from that it was like old school game on modern console, the graphics and fps weren't the best but the gameplay and other stuff was fun
Because modern games are filled with shitty post processing effects and motion blur because games apparently need to be cinematic.
>>384929427
Because they remind you of your childhood back when everything was simpler. That's all.
come to think of it, new york looks pretty dope in gta3
