Barely. Has a postgame quest that's forced on you and is shitty filler to pad it up. 5 side stories focusing on a different cast than player/partner. Only one of them (Igglybuff) is good, the rest focus on the cardboard guild members and literal who Team Charm. Worst one is Grovyle's, making him even more of the boring shonen hero and negating the entire purpose of his sacrifice by saying the Pokemon of the future still exist
Also casualizes the game immensely with Spinda's Cafe. You'll have triple digit stats by the time you face the pre-credits final boss.

People overrate super because it stopped handholding you through the game but the story is complete shit for the first half of the game, your partner is absolutely cringworthy and they reused the final boss from gates that I'd have to rank it as the worst pmd game.

Hey now, collecting Pokemon is a lot of fun, too. You don't need a super grand plot to enjoy things.
It's also why I loved Rescue Team. Befriending 3 mons, making it out of a dungeon with all of them alive, and then being able to play as them through leader switching is an amazing feeling.
