Okay, now if a QTE is so bad, how would you rather have Spiderman stop a giant falling crane? Maybe do it in a cutscene, taking all interaction away from the player? I mean, you could argue to not put it on rails, allow for a little more freedom in move about it while you shot web somewhere on the thing and hope it stops. It was never about fitting the character or not, you tool. Bamham combat is ass. You completely dictate the pace of the fights, you're never pressured, you can always escape from anything no matter what, you just slide to whatever enemy you want by throwing a punch, positioning doesn't matter, timing doesn't matter, you don't get punished for mashing, it's garbage. Bamham being this critically acclaimed behemoth is awfully telling of the 360 audience.

bamham combat isn't meant to be super challenging, the challenge is trying to get a perfect combo, no hits, variety points, etc, because you have to juggle so many different enemy types who you need to use different tactics on, selection and timing of your gadgets, etc, that's why people say it "makes you feel like batman" ie empowered or whatever

the spiderman game seems like it has a spider-sense dodge button, not a counter button like bamham, and it definitely makes sense for spider-man to be flying all around the place, whereas bamham's animations and distance closing attacks look fucking awful

I would rather have no interaction at all than token QTEs. But a decent video game designer would figure it out and either have the sequence be actually interactive, or get of it and replace it with something else that is.

QTEs would be like a movie that didn't have enough money for a big spectacle setpiece, so they cut to a guy standing somewhere else describing all the cool shit happening off-screen.

Spiderman's entire appeal is that he was always on the lower end of the power scale. Thugs with guns were actually a big threat to him, and his villains were all pretty small time and localized. The comics always went to shit when he got inflated and stopped being the guy who handled petty crimes.

The main selling point for me is going to be how fucking good free-roam swinging feels. If I can do Tony Hawk combos from one end of the city to the other, with a great sense of momentum and maybe even some sort of optional collectables or tricks to pull off on the way, I'm in.

If it's really underweight and hasn't progressed since Spider-Man 2 or Ultimate Spider-Man because they wanted to focus on these sort of set pieces, then I'll skip it. I want to be able to feel like I AM Spider-man, not that I'm watching Spider-man.

It's not about the fucking character, it's the mechanic itself. It's the huge forgiving window and iframes. It's the complete disregard for the direction I'm dodging to because none of it fucking matters, the game just lets me gets away with everything.

Could he do that? Yeah. Does he do that? No. He propels mostly through webbing. Is it good from a game design standpoint? Fuck no.

Any decent action game will fuck you up for dodging at random. Of course, it's really hard to punish mindless dodging when it's strictly contextual, leaves you invulnerable the whole way and has little recovery frames to speak of, which is why this whole thing is flawed at its core.
