Moons are basically an all-in-one collectable. You can find them by doing actual platforming or by doing menial but not exactly obvious stuff like in the OP. There's a shitload of moons in each world to compensate.

The only difference is that Odyssey doesn't kick you out of the level for grabbing one, so you can get multiple ones in the same visit. It's cutting down on padding.

Thanks. I've not really seen that from it. All I've seen so far is a video from the woods and dessert, and both areas were a massive expanse and involved lots of running. I really do hope it has more traditional, tight areas.

The levels only seem big at first glance. New Donk for instance is fairly small and compact, but there's lots of verticality and sub-areas strewn throughout.
