Consider that the 4 "new" characters (except Jedah) that aren't PAID DLC when all of them are just recycled Frankenstein.

Based on principle alone, I'd love nothing more than to see this trash flop. Has there ever been an ArcSys console game with as big an IP as Dragon Ball before? Because that goes a long way towards it being more successful than anything else they've done. That and it's a 3v3 game coming right in the wake of the new MvC disappointing a lot of people. It has all the right circumstances going for it to make it a very big success.

MVC3 actually had more normie draw than Infinite ever will because MVC3 was released within the generation of video game buyers that actually grew up with MVC2 at every Pizza chain and arcade. Infinite won't draw in normies that are even into Marvel cinematic universe shit because its years behind the films and won't include Xmen. They'd be more likely to sell movie tie-in games or games that focus more on a specific franchise. Marvel doesn't even have a respectable install base in the console video games market yet without Insomniac's Spiderman game.

If you haven't enjoyed a Marvel book in the last 12 years, it's because Ike Perlmutter fired all the editors when he took over, and writers/artists aren't there because they're THE BEST, they're there because they played it safe and didn't upset the crazy man. Capcom fucked up by agreeing to make a game where it's obvious the budget is pennies compared to MvC3. But a LOT of why this game sucks is directly due to policies in place by Ike Perlmutter, who is so crazy they specifically don't allow him to touch the movies.

At least that was Capcom being cheap in a smart way. They introduced new SF characters in there and recycled them into SFIV, saving money in the long run. MvCI doesn't even have that. Not only did they not introduce new SF characters in it, they didn't even put in a SFV rep. Because that would go from "no work at all" of recycling a UMvC3 character, to "a few days of work" making a character into a hyper version.

Capcom is noticeably worse at pinching pennies this time.

I think it'll do just fine with attracting MCUfags, which will make the game a moderate financial success. Then those people will stop playing after a month because they'll still get bopped by people who actually know how to play, and Capcom won't do a good enough job at including enough skinnerbox mechanics to keep people playing, and it will only be kept alive in the tournament scene by a small core of pros who somehow honestly enjoy playing it.

The game is clearly made on a budget, so I don't see how it can't make its money back, and has the potential to be a big success. It will never be accepted by FGC twitter, SRKforums, Eventhubs, /v/, twitch chat, etc.

All of this is absolutely unrelated to how GOOD the game turns out being, because that has nothing to do with sales.

MvC2 was a compilation of MvC, SFvSSH, XMCOTA and SFvXM. They took all the sprites and mashed them into a game when a handful of new characters.

Now for MvC3 thats from scratch, so they figured equal franchise representation can be possible here. With some characters like Vergil and Strider being left out because they didn't have time or they simply didn't think of it until UMvC3.
Shuma-Gorath and Jill were totally planned for DLC day one though.

I have to assume Vision and Scarlet Witch are season 2 DLCs, in time for Infinity War. Defenders is in August, so I'm not sure how long they'll wait on Defenders dlc.

X-Men movies are still insanely popular, and arguably have more concentrated star power in them than Disney's films. Hell, Days of Future Past had three different oscar winners in it.

No. Age of Apocalypse under performed, but they wouldn't have given it that MUCH larger budget if Days of Future past hadn't done very well.

Honestly, even in the comics, the X-Men do better than a lot of other titles, despite being targeted for destruction. It's mainly because Marvel's "big" writers are the worse writers they got. It's either Bendis or a multiculture draft pick who, while probably a great writer in their normal field, has never written a comic and assumes Bendis's shit way of writing is how the job is done. So that leaves the smaller writers, who keep their head down and just want to have an impact on their favorite characters, left with the X-Men. And they deal with every shitty order from the top ("Kill Cyclops... and make the world hate him, I don't care why!") and just roll with the punches. But that's what a real comic writer does. Hell, during the trash fire that was Civil War 2, the X-Men tie in was far better written then the main book. Knew when to put action beats in, kept everyone in character and smart... it was the example of how the event should have unfolded.

I'd argue there is a pretty big section of the FGC that also loves DBZ, and have ignored other DBZ games because they're not really serious 2d fighters. There is a lot of overlap between people who play games about punching people and throwing fireballs all day and people who watch the biggest anime ever about punching people and throwing fireballs all day.
