You have to be level 20 to upgrade gear to have more slots, Otherwise higher tier gear will appear in shops once you're a higher level. If you have the nintendo app though there's usually one or two 3 slot pieces of gear there that you can order and pick up from the sea urchin guy.
To place specific sub abilities that you want, you need to collect ability tokens, which you get from scrubbing gear (I think you can get them as rewards in salmon run too?) I think you need 10 and you can place one where you want. If it's the same as the first game certain brands of gear have a higher change of rolling certain abilities, and you can use crusty sean's drinks to up the chances.

I admire the game for fucking over the player and forcing them out of their comfort zone. Its a cool challenge. But god do I have the dualies, brush, and gatling gun. At least I can use the roller which sort of operates like a real weapon.

The gatling gun is terrible; I hate how it shoots. I have to learn to just pick a spot up high and wail away on enemies because otherwise im useless. The dualies are fine but when I dodge I do that stupid roll-thing and its just all around terrible. I lose any speed and agility with the weapon because I'm used to dodging right from a firing position (which causes the evade roll move). And you need movement in Salmon Run.

Its just different from what I'm used to and the 4 weapons available arent really the best to use for me.

Single player is mostly shit and just an 8 hour tutorial that introduces you to all the weapons. Fun story and awesome boss battles though.

Multiplayer is the meat of the game. 4v4 turf war and co-op horde mode called Salmon Run. Fun as fuck.

Splatoon 2 was my most hyped Switch game after BotW and so far it's delivering. Would recommend if you like team shooters.

I feel like a lot of you are misinterpreting Marina's character.
Her personality isn't supposed to be Marie 2.0. Since Marina is older then Pearl and Pearl is a total brat that just says whatever is on her mind even though its not true most of the time, Marina gives off a "oh geeze what am I going to do with you" kind of vibe.
She's supposed to be like a baby sitter making sure Pearl doesn't act to ridiculously.

Also the whole "Japanese Marina looks up to Pearl!" thing is bullshit. She's condescending to Pearl in Japan as well but the sentences are written more politely because of the difference in culture. Pearl is supposed to be the kid while Marina is supposed to be the adult across all translations.
