Anyone have fond memories of playing this as a kid? The rules are simplified compared to the actual card game but it's fun to fuse monsters so easily.
>>
>>384880986
and it's even funnier to see your opponent summon a gate guardian on first turn with no tribute while the only option you have is a twin headed thunder dragon gimmick fuse deck and equip cards
>>
>>384881767
Yeah the duels at the end of the game can get pretty savage (Seto III. But it's pretty satisfying to earn powerful cards after grinding so that you can stand a fighting chance. If you don't mind grinding or find it relaxing you can earn the cards you need to stand up to Gate Guardian and BEUWD.
>>
>>384880986

Do you guys think there's an appeal for another of these kind of games? A card game vidya that isn't competitive and instead of all about the sadistic unfair challenge of the singleplayer campaign?

>>
>ywn play gen1 Yu-Gi-Oh again
>ywn scrounge up the best deck you can with the occasional booster packs and cards your brother tosses down to you
>>
>>384882801
I hope so. We already have simulators for casual and competitive play, e.g. DevPro/YgoPro. So a game focused on a challenging single player campaign, where you build up your deck, would be good. Plus, Konami wouldn't have to worry about the game being outclassed by a fan made simulator as it offers something completely different.

The best part of the game was the music

All hail the one true god of Forbidden Memories.
>>
I liked some of the mechanics in the this. The way fusion worked was cool, and the guardian star system seemed interesting. I kind of wish they'd went more in-depth with those, I would certainly love an entire digital card game based on that fusion mechanic.
>>
>>384880986
DarkNite/Nitemare > Zorc. Prove me wrong. Also fuck that endgame, 6 duels in a row where you have to restart from the beginning is almost as brutal as all the bullshit in Reshef.

The thing I hate about it the most is that there are only 2 viable decks.

And no, I'm not going to farm 3 headed Blue eyed.

Also, if you don't have a guide with you, good luck if you want to know which character to challenge to get good card.

>>
>>384884568
These are all fair points. If they made a game similar to this in the future, there would definitely have to be a wide range of viable decks and possibly a drop list of cards in the game for players to see.
>>
>>384884731
>>384884568
It's so convenient that Meteor Dragon have two elements for you to choose and they can counter both the Moth and the Gate Guardian card.
Seriously.
>>
That early Yugioh feel is the best, The manga, the toei anime, the 1999 movie, the first season of duel monsters. It was dark and mysterious, fuck the rules anything can happen, and Darknite, who the fuck is that guy? Was Forbidden Memories his first appearance?
>>
>>384884882
Once you've grinded Meadow Mage for a couple of Meteor B. Dragons and earned a couple of Megamorphs you should be ready to beat the game. WideSpread Ruin will definitely be useful as well.

I actually loved this game despite how bullshit it was. I never reached the end gauntlet until a few years ago and only completed it earlier this year. I just decided one night, "I'm going to finish this game" and I did on my first try that night. Though it did take many failures at other times.
>>
I still remember this trick to clone cards if you have two memory cards:
- Grind the card you want
- Clone the save to another memory card
- Give the card from the cloned save to the original save, there is an exchange function in the game
- Do this again to get 3 cards
- Profit

I and my friends went crazy after we discovered this.

When it comes to progression would you have preferred card drops to be listed in-game, or instead let you buy a pack of 3 cards for 20 star chips or something?
>>
>>384885859
>or instead let you buy a pack of 3 cards for 20 star chips or something?

I'd very much prefer something like that. Just earning currency from duels and buying cards with it, like buying new weapons in a normal RPG.
>>
>>384885859
Hmm, both could be good additions. There are some useful cards you can unlock with star chips that don't cost an insane amount, such as thunder and dragon monsters. Starchip costs go up to 999,999 for some cards.

I've been told that this game was released in japan with a scanner of some sorts, some kind of hardware that gave you starts if you had physical yugioh cards or something like that. Making having the stars needed for the big boys not that big of an issue.

Which explains why the game is so fucking hard and grindy.
>>
>>384885279
I read all the way up to battle city but don't remember him, I thought It was weird that Zorc appears early on as one of Bakura's cards and there's also Dark Master Zorc. DarkNite seems to go against the continuity of the millennium items and shadow games
>>
>>384886089
I'd have to read into the manga and brush up on my knowledge of what is and isn't canon to answer this fully. NiteMare is referred to as the Card Majin, but I believe it was Pegasus who actually created the cards. Yeah it does seem to be contradict.
>>

You can potentially beat him with the perfect starting deck, and you can use rng manipulation to get this. When you beat him he simply demands a rematch however.

I saw a speedrunned do what he called "fakeouts" he just set 2 stars card in defense mode and somehow the ai would not attack it even whne it had over 3k attack
>>
>>384886968
Ah that's AI manipulation; finding ways to exploit the AI into making scrub plays. RNG manipulation refers to performing certain actions at certain times to influence the game. The biggest example of this is using it to get good starting decks. In Yugioh FM, your starting deck is determined by the point in time in which you finish on the enter name screen, when you start a new campaign. The specific frame at which you do this then determines your starting deck. So basically doing certain actions at a certain frame.

Not pic related. It stands for Black. I think they abbreviate it to B to avoid black being interpreted racially. This sounds pretty stupid, but English translations of cards are watered down as much as possible to avoid referencing anything that could be conceived as offensive. This includes replacing religious symbols and tooning up guns. Even the Ankh in Monster Reborn is changed in the English version as it is considered a religious symbol, even though no one follows Ancient Egyptian religions anymore.

Fun fact, Dark Magician is called Black Magician in the Japanese prints.
>>
>>384888787
The first show doesn't really have a rule. It plays fucking differently depends on the board, the physical appearance of the monsters, and so on.

Tag Force 4,5,6 and Special
Special has a full patch, 6 is stil untranslated
>>
>>384897727
If you actually want to play the card game, play Nightmare Troubadour if you're only a fan of the original series, Tag Force 3 if you don't like 5Ds (it has some Synchro cards, but only the player can use them), Tag Force 6 if you're okay with Synchros, and Tag Force Special if you want to play one of the most recent games.

Forbidden Memories is only good for meme value. The other console games (Duelists of the Roses, Falsebound Kingdom, Capsule Monster Colosseum and Wheelie Breakers) are spinoffs that don't play like the card game, especially Wheelie Breakers, which is a racing game.

>>
>>384897727
From my experience every yugioh game has the damn problem of the ai being an idiot that overexstends and spends it's resources as fast it can which makes it stupidly easy to beat with any sort of board clearing stuff. Watch it spend 4 cards tribute summoning out some big thing and throwing tons of equipment cards on it and and attack into your backrow.

Than rather than having a proper campaign they just make you fight the same dumb ai 200 times in a row. Often it doesn't even use a different deck, not that it would matter since it pilots each one incompetently.

Than there is the card pool selection which is always terrible. dozens of overly niche spells/traps, you'll never touch 95% of them. Pointless normal monsters with attack values worst than effect monsters of the same level range. Gimmick extra deck monster/ritual cards with summoning conditions that don't justify the card's value. Piles of effect monsters with abilities that are too conditional to ever mainboard. Terrible balance that mixes in the older, weaker cards in the same cardpool as the newer power-house archtypes leading to dumb matches where the winner is often decided by who draws the better cards.

And a horrible banlist that allows instant card advantage spells which have no counter play like harpies feather duster, snatch steal or pot of greed.

The best one I know of is legacy of the duelist.

Problem with that is normal monster beat-down is pretty stale. Maybe you mean every monster having multiple effects which you have to squint
at in order to read. This can be quite dauting for new players and kiddos as well.
>>
>>384900467
>cannot be targeted by your opponents card effects
the only way to beat this card is by recognizing the fact that it is a ritual summon monster, and that the opponent can't ritual summon it without the both the card itself, and the ritual spell card, and materials, in their hand. 99/100 times, you can just screw with their plays and win. If you really want to, just get a beat stick with more than 4000 attack points.
>>
>>384901258
Jar does not target MAX dragon because it says "all face-up monsters", not " a face-up monster". True yugioh ruling :^)
>>
>>384901258
That card doesn't target and it's very easy to get it out on your first turn. The beat stick method will work.

I really enjoyed this game when it came out. Find myself going back to it every so often. Even came with some cards.
>>
>>384900929
Why? There's only a handful normal monsters in the whole game worth playing.

The 2,000 attack 4star normal is directly better than every other sub5 star normal in the game, there is no reason for any others to exist. And no one even uses the 2,000 guy anyway because stuff like breaker the magic warrior is better in 99% of situations.

Same with the 5-6 star range monsters. The no reason to have 2,400 attack normal when there's a 2,500 one. And again in 99% of situations any of the monarchs will be better than a 2,500 beater.

One of the villain routes on Tag Force 4 has you join Roman as your tag partner, unlike most of the other routes this one is only unlocked after completing the 5 Signer routes meaning you became their trusted friend, companion, and in the case of Aki, love interest.
In it you betray all the signers and get to watch their reactions to you now being their enemy while they all stand about in pure disbelief
Given how Aki already had issues trusting people before you pretty much mindbreak her forever in the event.

Yeah, that's been going on for quite a while among the Brazilian fans. They have made many vanilla mods that change up the difficulty and drop rates and some have made mods that completely change what cards are in the game. Forbidden Memories 2 in particular has a crazy grind gate system, card rarity system, and basic effects like boosting ATK/DEF or destroying certain kinds of monsters. Take a look around youtube for FM mods and you're sure to see plenty of interesting stuff.
