WAR only has high DPS when mistakes don't happen. It doesn't want to swap to Defiance and use IB because that's a loss of a FC, something PLD/DRK don't have to deal with when swapping stances. PLD/DRK have no problem swapping in any fight, so why take a WAR?

WAR's design right now would be fine if it was the only tank, but in comparison to the other two it's more difficult for the same reward, isn't easier to heal, and brings no utility.

There's no rush, but you're not encouraged to stand around at level 30 and take your time. All of the shit that is 'fun' is pushed to endgame or at least near endgame levels, while previous content is rendered useless and irrelevant.

98% of the gear is absolutely buttfucking useless because of reliance on item level, and even for leveling PotD and PvP don't give a fuck what you wear. The most you're going to spend on a single level is maybe 3 hours, so they don't even bother making anything worthwhile save for slut-glams at levels 1-49, 51-59 and 61-69 because the vast majority of the content is designed for endgame in mind.

Paladin and Dark Knight have to spend a GCD swapping, and it costs MP, little as that generally affects Paladin. You can just not IB and do great damage, or if you see something's going slightly wrong and your healers might need a little load taken off you can instantly swap and mitigate with the only downside being a little damper on your DPS, this alongside having generally lower cooldowns on your defensive CDs and now Rampart as well.

I'm ready. I subbed for a SAM in a friend's static week 1 since my static fell apart after Echo was added to Creator. They got me a page run of O1S (and the healer who was a sub as well) and then we managed to clear O2S before the end of the night. They hadn't cleared it the first couple nights due to hitting enrage, but once me and the other healer learned the fight we managed to clear it well before the enrage since I had higher DPS than their SAM who I was subbing in for. They let us roll on the tomestone and I ended up winning the roll on it, and they had a permanent DPS and healer spot open which I didn't get because the raid leader told their old NIN who had quit that they wanted him back even though he barely breaks 3k DPS when he doesn't die, even though my friend said he knew someone who could fill the spot. Now I'm in a static with 7 other people who have never raided before, one of whom is named Kirito.
We start raiding next week, but I'm not too optimistic about our chances. At least I'll have my knuckles in two weeks.

To be fair that's because O4S has A8S-style enrage where the enrage is just nonlethal repeated raidwide damage that increases in intensity each time. Clearing it without Mantra is probably close to impossible in world first gear.
However when you look at the actual numbers, Monk is basically on-par with SAM once you account for Brotherhood. Melee are rather well-balanced this patch; aside from DRG's personal DPS being too low due to a poorly thought-out gimmick. All it would take to fix DRG would be to extend the duration of eyes and make red BOTD function like old BOTD where you can maintain it if you're good and Nastrond eats up duration.

Been on vacation since before 3.05 came out, what are the go to accessories for tanks now? VIT with STR IV melded, one STR ring?

At lower levels you can do what you want. If you feel like paying for materia then fending melded with STR is good though you can just wear STR anyway since it wont likely make a difference
Once you reach SB content accessories are class locked so you dont have a choice
I also recommend against using 270 slaying past the third SB dungeon because thats when mobs start hurting and many healers cant deal with it

I'm asking specifically at lvl 70, up until 3.05 I was using a mix of 2 VIT with STR melds and 3 STR with VIT melds, swapping out for more or less when the situation called for it.

So what is the ettiquete for deciding who becomes main tank? I've just started doing my first raids in crystal tower as PLD, and it seems like there's always another WAR/PLD/DRK willing to go tank stance and pull the big boss. In these cases, I guess I'm just supposed to pull trash mobs and try not to get mowed down by mechanics? Will it matter if I go sword oath?

Exactly why I dropped healers too. Its a fun role when everybody that you are playing with are good. If you don't have friends to rely on to do the tougher stuff then steer clear from healing roles.
