Glad to hear that. You may ant to try out the in-game tutorial first then go pick up characters that you're interested in. trying all of them is suggested.

The characters usually suggested to try for newbies are Ky, Sol, Sin, May, Elphelt, Raven and Faust as they have straightforward game plan. If you come from Street Fighter, Ky will be the best character to learn the game with as he's not only intuitive, he's also high tier.

The online for this game is a lot more subdued that other fighters like SF and Tekken, mainly because no one plays Ranked and people schedule their lobbies and player matches. You can use the GG discord to ask for games, as well as visit the sub discord of your characters for advice and tech, just ask nicely. There are a lot of newbies asking for help too because of post_EVO hype and the recent sale

You have to pressure potemkin hard and don't respect him too much. He basically has no good reversal and his normal are too slow to smash out. Use safe fast normal when pressure him to avoid him backdash reversal or absorbed by hammerfall . YRC projectiles if you gonna throw at him in mid range so that if he hammerfall he will get punished. Don't do high commit single hit normal or special without meter to RC or you will eat shit. His huge hurt box will make sure he eat extra pressure in every situation. He's also to a lot of air dash pressure as he's super tall so that there's specific air pressure that work against him.

The uppercut followup is very lenient after the Parry. When you parry an attack you can just spam P and you should get the uppercut move. The stab and the crossup dash counter is stricter though, you really have to anticipate the attack so you can parry>S/K on reaction

That's actually exaggerated IMO. I think Tekken is harder in a sense that its way harder to get better in that game because of a lot of factors you have to consider. It's an easier game to pick up and play though.

GG is the kind of game that requires you to find players of roughly the same skill level though. Its good fighting players of high skill level so you can get better, but too high that may result in curbstomps wont be a rewarding experience because you wont be able to find the mistakes you made or where they got you. This is true for a lot of fighting games but is especially true for this game.

Greed server connects crouching opponent at like frame 22 which is only marginally better than 5D. But then 5d hit all the time online as well. It's relatively not as difficult to block as many overhead like leo, millia, or jam if you are focus on blocking. However, it can hop over many attack and also have fairly long active hit box in the air so many times it hit when it hop over an opponent smashing something to get out of pressure or catching a button or movement during a skirmish situation.

Scum dipper is surprisingly get overlooked as the "dishonest" move when it's so fast, low profile and unreactable even offline, and also RC let Ky have a free combo or a free pressure on hit or block.

Pad player here. I used a Hori FC4 for playing GG. It's a 6 button pad but I usually map the buttons so that the inner 2 buttons arent used and the 4 outer buttons are the only ones used alongside shoulder buttons. It's ok; the DPAD is also responsive, but the thing gets worn out within 1-2 years of use. The DPAD becomes really mushy and affects sensitivity to te point that it might go to a direction you arent even pressing.

i've later switched to DS4. The DPAD doesnt feel as great as the Hori one, but the buttons have a satisfying feel and best of all its quite tough and takes a long time to take a beating.

By old games you mean Accent Core and earlier? The story modes in those games are really just visual novels no longer than 10 minutes per character in classic arcade fighter fashion. Only in Xrd Sign that they decided to go the full cinematic story mode route. I would suggest just watch SIGN's storymode on YT, maybe read up some lore on earlier games then buy Rev 2 and watch Revelator's story mode which continues from SIGN. It's anime, takes itself seriously at times but knows how to execute it well. May start out a bit slow but when the action kicks in, it really kicks in.

Her normal attacks are weak and risky, so it's hard for her to be effective in neutral. I can confirm that Ram is very easy for begginers. She auto combos and moves forward automatically with K and P spam, while with other characters you attack once and then need to microdash or chose a longer range attack, which is harded than spamming 2 buttons with no directional input.
Also her super (the laser one) eats 1/5th of your opponent's HP even if they block because of the crazy chip damage. Even if they manage to jump they'll still probably get caught by it while falling.

Of course I'm sure at an intermediate level (and up) she's much harder to play because everyone knows how to block/dodge/move around better and you'll need to rely on her full kit, but for the first 20 hours (when no one can do normal combos, much less air combos or instant air dashing or using any kind of defense other than normal blocking) she's a very easy pick, you don't even need to care about her 6S and 6HS attacks, just use 2S / 2HS in the middle of your K and P spam, while using her meter on the laser whenever you can and you're golden.

It's not that hard to get the muscle memory for combos down and it becomes MUCH easier the more you play. Like it really only takes like 30 minutes to an hour a day and you'll have it down pack within a week easily. Even sooner if you're a quick learner. The hard part is less so the combos and more so learning how to beat someone in neutral and read their decisions.

i can do all the combos in the guide pretty easily but it seems the only way to get solid openings with this shit against good players is to abuse his cheese.

I find it's easier to train hard combos like that in smaller bit sized portions. If you do it for hours then you get tilted or mentally exhausted and you learn nothing, while if you train it in smaller portions like an hour, take an hour or two break try again for another hour you get a different perspective since your mind is refreshed and less tilted from failing for hours.

Have you tried using 6H to reset pressure or catch people mashing? Ky is also about getting reads and getting thows in. Learn to tick throw with 2p/5k, if you do it right the opponent can't throw a jab at you before you grab them. One of the missions is about tick throwing as Ky so check that out

I practiced the tick throw mission a lot yeah. I'm not sure if this is a matchup specific thing or maybe i just wasnt quick enough (playing a venom) but a lot of the time I attempted to do that, I got punished with a defensive grab on their part.
6h seems to be a good move, but there doesnt seem much to convert off of it. it leads into greed server i guess but if the opponent is too far away even that doesnt connect.

learn what back dash cancel is, theres a tutorial for it ingame on his combo tutorials.
once you learn it, learn how to apply forward/back dash cancels with mappa, dandy step and bite. 5k/6hs are your best neutral buttons, remember that 6hs cancels into dandy step. learn how to mixup with dandy step + under pressure as you can do a lot of different followups because the its late counterhit is scary as balls so people usually dont mash out of it. Check dustloop wiki -> slayer, it has a lot of good stuff.

The newer models have the same components as the older ones (sanwa or seimitsu parts) unless it was a cheap budget stick. Your TE is just as good quality as anything else on the market. If it's a PS3 stick you're good to go. Every PS4 fighter supports them. If it's a 360 stick buy a Brook converter for $30.

Still using my HRAP 3. Zero problems that aren't the result of my sloppy ass execution (can't do FD drill cancels consistently but Faust is one of the only characters I like playing.)

The HRAP4 is really light compared to the TE1 i used to have, more comfortable on your legs. Stick in it sucks though so you'll wanna swap your TE stick into that if you get one
