While the voice quality is shit-tier compared to what TS and other services offer, it's just so easy to use. Skype is fucking broken at every single-turn, and while Skype accommodates video calls and 1-on-1 calls, Discord has plans to integrate both eventually. Teamspeak does have the advantage of personalizing one's server a little more, via client/channel descriptions, server layout, etc, but Discord is way more appealing and easier to use. Bots can do much more and are easy as hell to set up if you know what you're doing. It's also free to set up a server, where Teamspeak isn't, and they don't try to jew you out of features to get Nitro. Discord devs were pretty damn smart. They just went "what do people need that they aren't getting" and by looking at the other platforms and taking some of the things they did right, they made Discord, and it's taking over for very good reason.
