It's Generations with one more new gameplay style.

There are Modern Sonic, Classic Sonic and Original The Hedgehog stages. Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic stages are like they are in Generations, Original The Hedgehog stages are a bit like Modern Sonic but with a focus on weapon based gameplay.

It's kinda depressing. A Sonic game doing this after almost 5 years of nothing bar whatever Boom tried to be is a blaring signal that Sega's finally against the wall with the franchise.

The game's going to do fantastic and Sonic Team will once again be trying to do things like they did in the 06 era and it'll crash and burn and things will just be repeat of the last 10 years because, let's face it, Sonic can't really die. He was too big, and he still is. Whem Sega can't pull the wagon anymore, at least Nintendo will probably be there to take the IP in and finally give their spin on it and maybe reclaim his glory.

Them trying new things isn't a bad thing, it's half assing them what is a bad thing and creating a billion sonic games every year during the dark ages in very short time that was the problem
