This. I usually switch genres or focus on games I might not have beaten yet. Like for example: I have been playing a lot of older FPS games, so I am very burnt out on doing any FPS titles for awhile and focusing on RPGs and non-FPS multiplayer titles.

If I am burned out on games, I switch to movies and TV shows, and vice versa.

You really need to find another hobby and put videogames aside for a good while(months not days). If you force yourself to play vidya because it has become routine then it's only gonna get worse. You're no longer playing for fun but because you feel you have to and it only exacerbates the feeling of emptiness.

When I'm feeling burnt out, I play something from the 8 or 16 bit eras. Those games are short, so they don't take much commitment. And they get to the fun stuff immediately instead of having cutscenes and tutorials.
