It's amazing what presentation can do for a game. To me almost everything outside of the actual gameplay is worth it enough to slog through the game at least 3 times, and probably more.

Meanwhile It's taking me for fucking ever to just get through my second conquest run. I'm amazed I even finished Birthright after Leon's chapter and magic plot device. I almost deleted the game right there.

I actually liked his art, I just hated his obsession with taking away armoured female characters pants. The fact that Effie is covered head to toe in armour except her ass is hanging out is so fucking stupid and just about every female armoured unit in fates has their ass or thighs exposed and it looks so fucking stupid.

Honestly, I don't give a rat's ass about fanservice designs. I think things like mage and sorcerer bodysuits are outright retarded, but that's probably a double standard on my part because I like the Corrin's thigh and Camilla's panty window.

In my opinion, armor practicality is so far off of what's wrong with Fates that I just give it a pass because there are much larger things in that game to be mad about.

Actually, if I remember right, the armor designs actually weren't Kozaki's fault. He just designed the characters that go in them. The new(ish) art director that they brought in for Awakening was more responsible for that. H

IMO 8, 9, 10, and now Echoes have really great costume and character designs that just make the games a constant visual treat to play through. I'm not an expert in the field so I can't really rant and rave about what exactly makes them so good, I just know that I personally love them to death.

I know that something like "visually appealing character design" might seem totally ancillary to how good a video game is, but with a video game you're basically talking about a medium that boils down to exactly three things - input, audio, and video. It's a visual medium, and having characters that are pleasing, or at the very least, interesting to look at goes a really long way. I think it's an underappreciated factor here on /v/, probably because it's so subjective.

Wada was Sacred Stones, though I think she did some level work for previous games. Senri Kita was Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Fun fact, Wada did the in game portraits for PoR which is why they're different than the art Kita did for that game.
