because many of the companies dumped licensed projects on folks that honest-to-god did not understand how to make a game and had no business making one. It's quite easy to fuck up a platformer actually, if you don't have a good handle on level design and properly programming controls+physics the whole game feels like trash.

the godzilla fighting games were fucking awesome, there's no other fighter like them. I'm so salty that kaiju combat was a bust, I almost donated to it.
