The same could be accomplished by just putting your hand around the corner and shooting, since it's doubtful they'd hit a small target like that.

This seems like something that has such a small amount of situations it would be useful for over every other standard option.
As I said, throwing your hand around a corner and firing off a couple shots blind is still very safe.
If you are against someone that can snap shoot a hand sized target, you're fucked anyways.
