Biker post-Jacket murder isn't canon though
>>
>>384790642
There was a thread where a guy put two different timelines, one where Biker kills Jacket, and another where Jacket beats (Not kill) Biker, which is the cannon for HM2

The Abyss extra chapter takes place in the timeline where Biker killed jacket and the Bunker remains unused by 50 blessings because they are gone in that timeline.

I remember the dev saying it was an accurate explanation of the story, if i can find the thread i'll link it, it was on Reddit

>Where are you getting this alternate timeline bullshit from? Jacket thought he killed Biker but didn't. Otherwise Richter wouldn't have been called in to kill Jacket.

That's Hotline Miami's canon universe.but when you play as Biker in HM1, you are playing on a different timeline, where 50 blessings is gone (Thanks to Biker killing/exposing them, or maybe the fact that Jacket wasn't there to kill the Russian Mafia Leader), The Abyss in HM2 takes place in the timeline where you played as Biker in the first game, that's why you find hobos wearing masks in an unused bunker, because at the end of the day there was no need for it.

Jacket being dead is like the best possible outcome

That's a big croc of shit for a couple reasons:
Biker didn't kill or expose 50 Blessings, he (possibly) killed the janitors, who are merely operatives in the grand scheme of the organization, and ran the fuck out of Miami right after (see: credits of HM1). 50 Blessings ceases masked killer operations after Jacket kills the Russian mob because they've served their purpose, fucking up the Russian mob and their connections in the US government (see: Hotel mission in HM1).
Seeing as Biker is alive in HM2 on Jacket trial scene (and Bar of Broken Heroes to a lesser extent since it's a weird scene with dead characters), it doesn't make sense that both are alive if you take into consideration that either of the Phone Hom fights is the true one. This, however, can be easily explained: Jacket's rendition happens as a recollection during his comma, which lasts up to Trauma, so it's probably not totally true to the actual events. This is supported by the outro scene of this chapter in HM1, in which he talks to Beard on a shop while Biker's dead body lays on the ground, and the latter says: "This isn't really happening, let me show you" and Biker's body vanishes.

Calm down, kid. I didn't mean to offend you or your shitty game.

As far as Biker's version is concerned, it doesn't make sense for the continuity of HM2 since Biker kills Jacket in it, but on the intro to this chapter you can see that just before heading out to Phone Hom Biker was throwing a party at his place, and there are drugs on his apartment and passed out people all over it as well, so his recollection could possibly be clouded like Jacket's. Also his face is fucked up with a scar in HM2 which he could've either gotten by fighting Jacket or on his time in the desert.
You can scream headcanon if you want to, but the fact is both characters are canonically alive in HM2 (again, Biker on the trial scene and Jacket throughout the whole game) and both their appearances are byproducts of their respective endings (Biker leaving Miami and getting mindfucked in the desert and Jacket being arrested after the murder of the Russian boss).
I have nothing on The Abyss, though, maybe after 50 Blessings ceased their operations following Jacket's arrest they abbandoned their HQ and the hobos took over on the main canon, but I'd bank more on it being non-canon.
>>
>>384797854
it was readable, not incredibly good, but not bad either
>>
>>384794839
How would that even work?
>>
>>384798156
This.
On top of that, the Abyss universe happened because Jake survived Withdrawal, pocketed a floppy disk containing sensitive information realting to 50 Blessings, and Evan found the floppy disk among Jake's clothing.
Of course, he didn't survive, as his failure cutscene shows him getting interrogated and killed, with his body appearing in the first game, in Hot&Heavy.
>>
>>384798816
About Jake, after he cleared the house of the russian mob and the 50B operative killed him, his body could've been planted on the scene by 50B to not compromise the undisclosed location in which they murdered him, then the Russians Jacket kills in Hot&Heavy ( was it really Hot&Heavy, though? Thought it was a smaller level) could've arrived and found their guys and their killer all dead, thus allowing Abyss to be canon.

There's a documentary on youtube about the creators of HM. Both are turbo hipsters that complain about the success of the game. One even starts tearing up saying that the popularity made his life worse.
Now one of them is banking off the success of the games to get his shitty band off the ground while the other is working on a new game entirely.
>>
>>384799747
The execution of both stories are vastly different. The story of HM1 is meant to keep you in the dark and be confusing. The story is all there, but you have to sort of piece it together. HM2 is a lot more forthcoming, story wise, but in the end you realize how futile it all is. It's not really fair to compare them, but you connect a lot more dots throughout the whole series when you play 2.

The major points are all there in 1, but I appreciate how 2 fleshes out a lot of stuff. For example, you learn about SanFran in HM1 so you can figure out that "you know who" died there , but knowing how it happened and the circumnstances and consequences of it in 2 was nice and expanded on that plot point and many more.
As for founding out how futile it all was, I don't really agree. A lot of people said it was all for nothing considering how the ending was on the weeks following the release of the game, but for me all of it was a well told story with defined beggining, middle and ending, that left me satisfied regardless of being bittersweet. I guess it's a matter of personnal taste concerning how you like stories to end.

It's sad how Dennaton already stated they don't want and won't make more, because they could make another game from the place 2 left us with someone (or ones) new as protag (Biker could've survived the Miami nuke since he's been living in the desert, but as he said he's lost the will to fight so it wouldn't make sense to have him as the protagonist) , living during/after the nuclear way, assaulting buildings fortificated by groups of other people for supplies, for starters, and other kinds of objectives.
Hell, considering how the in-game US and Russian government formed a coallition after the Hawaii nukes, maybe they could make the world in HM3 a really tense one, with both sides afraid of the other but also reluctant to drop more nukes in fear of retalliation. There are many possibilities they could work with.

In the end I'd really like some passionate level editor to make a spiritual sequel set in the post-nukes world.

It was neat going back to HM1 and finding something about San Francisco after playing through the second game. I somehow missed that my first time around, and HM2 helps clear up so many things that you might have missed.

Regarding the futility, I don't necessarily mean that the whole game or the story was futile, it's just that it puts all of your senseless killing into perspective with even more senseless killing. I actually love how empty it makes you feel in the end. Every single person in that game dies a meaningless death due to a horrible cycle of violence.

There's not really a "in between" HM1, and HM2, after Jacket kills the Russian mob boss 50 blessings stops the masked killer operation, the only major things that happen are the colombian takeover of the criminal underworld and the fans sitting in a bar waiting for 50 blessings to call them.

Man I know the feel.
There was a girl I would spend ours on the phone with ever night. Like all the time for months.
And just as we were about to start a relation ship literally the same day I went and fucked around with another girl I wasnt even attracted to for no reason.
Of course she found out and she couldn't even talk to me or look at me. Math class was really bad because she sat right in front of me. She would always sit side ways on her chair so we could talk in class but that day she just sat normally, never turning or even glancing. Thats when I realized how much of a thing we had.
It never was the same after that. I think she eventually came to terms with it because even though I wasn't going to school years later I would always manage to run into her at events and get togethers or the like and she would always say something to me and not even seem angry. We never even talked about it. I never even got to say sorry and say how much she ment to me.
Any way I thing shes engaged now and I don't even know why the fuck im talking about this.

Well, he wasn't shown given a statement after Dead Ahead, and we find out right after you finish it that there was a police raid planned to take place that night, you just happened to take it into your own hand and went in alone before the others arrived, so maybe some other cop talked to the media and told them that it was all a big operation.
As for killing lots of people on your own, that happens all the time in HM, Jacket took out all of the Russian mafia almost single handledly.

Speaking of which, what the fuck is Pardo?
Even Richard doesn't know what Pardo is or wants.

All I can think of is that Pardo wants "his fifteen minutes of fame", especially considering that a camera crew flashes in the outro to Homicide, even though it's clear to him that his Miami Mutilator killings are clearly overshadowed by the mass murders performed by the Fans. This prompts him to later up the brutality by "mutilating" his victims postmortem, up to the point where he's so fed up with the Fans' fame that he shoots Tony to prevent him from getting any notoriety and forgetting to clean up the evidence at his final crime scene.

None of his levels seem to have any context either, besides "Caught", which is already a dream sequence. In "Homicide", he drives straight from the diner to the department store, where it just so happens that a robbery is taking place, and subsequently goes to a Miami Mutilator scene. The same goes for "Dead Ahead", where he plants the wallet of his next victim at Alex's house, while that same victim is in his trunk, tied up and gagged. When you get to the ship later, his trunk is empty, so it makes sense that he killed him and dumped the body at the building in the outro. But he couldn't have just decided to raid a Colombian ship of 100 in between him dumping the body and the police investigation.

No newspaper in the game mentions anything that Pardo does. You'd think stopping a robbery or killing an entire ship of gangsters would be cause for a news story. It happens throughout the story, and Pardo himself mentions that "they need buckets of blood to raise an eyebrow". Despite acknowledging this, he only kills one victim at a time. And all of the media attention in the game gets directed towards the Fans and the gang war between the Russians and the Colombians.

Fuck anon, reminds me of this one girl I almost dated in high school, but her friends kept trying to convince her to not bother with me. We remained close friends, and I'm positive we would have dated if one frustrated evening I didn't get drunk and actively pursue a mutual friend. We lost contact for a bit and rekindled later, but at that point I was already in a long term relationship still am. I'm positive these days however that If that weren't the case and I sought her out, that it would happen instantly. Too bad she drinks a bit too much and doesn't have shit else going for her. But she's still incredibly nice and I miss those hugs.

I have also studied God (perhaps not as extensively as you) and, most important of all, I studied History, and almost everything that is written in the old testament are just old legends and myths from older civilisations
Besides, there is nothing in the Bible that proves, with concrete evidence, that God exists. It just says ''God did everything, God is the Word, and the Word is God'' and all that shit, which doesn't prove shit, considering that's exactly what every other religion does.

I have a feeling God wouldn't damn me for eternity just because I refuse to believe everything I hear, and that I would rather think for myself and choose the most logical answer

Besides, If God exists, he's most likely exactly as Spinoza described him, and if you consider Spinoza to be a heretic and disregard everything I said you can get the fuck out of here

I'm open-minded, but still skeptical. I know I am most likely wrong, and what I desire the most is the truth, and right now logic provides me with what seems to be the closest to the truth. A little curious fact about the Richter and the ending:

In First Blood's intro when Richter talks to his mom laying in bed, she says she had a strange dream about him and his FATHER staring out into the sea, and that something BAD was about to happen.

This is a foreshadow of what actually happens in the end, but what is curious is her mentioning his father is in the dream, because as we know Richter dies with Richard beside him.

So it got me thinking, maybe Richard is Richter's father?

Also, First Blood was the first hit from 55b against the russian mob, and guess who've done it? Yes, our guy.

I don't refuse to believe them because I'm a stubborn fucktard, you know
I try to do this logically, like every goddamn fucking adult should, and by using logic (which may be proven wrong someday) I can clearly see that God can't be proven.

>And why would I listen to some "intellectual"
I don't claim to be an intellectual, I just want to know the actual truth, not the 'truth'' provided by logical fallacies like most spiritual persons do

>that didn't even had contact with God?
Come in contact with God? Why didn't I think of that! It's so simple! It's not like I fucking tried when I was younger, and like Spinoza I found that he didn't fucking answer back. Do you see? what I need, more than anything else is PROOF
Something that nobody could fucking give me.

As I have said before, if you give me the secret to enlightenment, I will become the most devout believer in existence. Without substantial proof, It's impossible for me to believe to such an extreme claim, which is the logical way to act. >The audience is there and they are thirsty.

theres no audience for these games and they have no staying power or good gameplay at all
>>
>>384824967
I was considering making a ripoff game. I was thinking of a more futuristic setting using a fog-of-war mechanic so that recon would be extremely important. The mask system would be changed into a power armor system that would change the color of neon your character glows, and you would get different powers/benefits based on that. Extra sight bonuses, non-lethal only, etc. Would /v/ play a blatant futuristic ripoff?

>most of the sprites in the game are reused everywhere

The only connection I see between them is your headcannon.

If the gameplay and the level design are good, and the visuals look futuristic, sure.

Guess I'm too much of a skelly then if I got put off by that picture.
Where did you get the shirts, btw? I don't usually wear graphic ones but they're quite nice, and I like the color scheme for the Swans one very much.

Sounds like it could be interesting or shite.
>change the color of neon
Not personally a fan of this (I like changing sprites), but it sounds like a nice & easy way to visually differentiate between powers.

Would play but don't fuck it up.

Not into the neon suit glow but I'd play it. As an example, Ruiner seems to be influenced by Hotline Miami, in a cyberpunk world. The main character has a changing mask. My guess is they could chance the "power" through what the mask shows. I'd rather see that sort of subtlety than a neon glow.

As long as it doesn't turn out like the "Hold shift to see farther or die from offscreen gunfire" sections of HM2 it could be interesting.

>changing neon colors

Nah. Not a fan.

You see the idea of alot of calm moments before one big quick moment of violence doesn't sound like a terrible idea, but it sure as hell isn't hotline miaimi, hotline miami is also not emo simulator

It really is a great film. Just don't expect a lot of action scenes, it's a slow burn that tells a somber story

Will Hotline Miami 3 ever happen ? I can't forget that tease at the end of 2.
>>
>>384829745
I love that scene. The way it builds up their kiss, the way it's almost a goodbye since he knows she won't stay after what he'll do, the fucking stomping. It's a small detail but the fact that he grabs the railing at one point really adds to the intensity.
That and the motel scene.
>>
>>384829795
Didn't the devs say they aren't going to make another? At least some of the fan works are pretty good just like how LISA has some really good fan projects.

Let's be honest, the greatest thing about HM is the music.

I love that after he shows his violent side he looks like a completely different character. Also I was going to bring up railing. Just adds to how in the moment he was, and the shot of the scorpion while the elevator doors close, separating them because he knows she's seen his true self. god I might rewatch that movie tonight.

>after he shows his violent side

Yeah, just like you said, Punished Driver was almost like another character, basically because the newly found purpose he'd found was now lost to him, he only wanted to get done with the whole ordeal he got himself into, and from there on, just Drive aimlessly.

I feel that it's underrated. A lot of critics panned it. Don't expect your typical Fast and Furious action film. It's a very unique film, I've never seen anything quite like it. It has a lot of symbolism and some things are left to interpretation. It's a shame Only God Forgives wasn't as good as Drive.
>>
>>384830961
don't worry, I hate Fast and Furious
My favorite movies are Scarface, Full Metal Jacket and Dog Day Afternoon
>>
>>384830313
I remember watching it the first time, confused in a lot of moments but scenes like that kept me going. That shot is fantastic, with the lighting really showing the scorpion "breathing"
>>384830961
I think it gained its cult following. Also a lot of scenes are weird since you keep expecting something else to happen, specially the ones e where Gosling stands there motionless just a bit longer than you'd expect.
Haven't seen Only God Forgives. Is it good?
>>
>>384830641
were you the one who made it?
>>
>>384831204
It's hard to explain how I feel about it. It's not as good as Drive, it's VERY different. It's shot beautifully, it has wonderful cinematography and music, but Ryan Goslings character does even more staring and motionless acting, it's all told through actions and body language, there's barely any talking. It's worth watching. Just don't expect it to be better than Drive
>>
>>384796163
literally every single character besides beard got exactly what they deserved
the fans are some quirky group of friends, they're a group of mass murdering psychos
>>
>>384831809

>>
>>384832008

Different anon, but the movie gets a lot of shit from people. It's beautifully shot, and has some strange story arcs, but it's pretty damn good for what it is. Really is like a moving painting at times.
>>
>>384832186
I agree. It's simply beautifully, can't stress it enough but the cinematography is amazing. However, the part with his mother's womb is still really weird to me, also its a lot more violent than Drive
>>
>>384831204
>Only God Forgives
Characters may be okay and looks of the movie may be good, but if they made it a silent movie nothing would even change, stare, stare with disgust, stare with hatred, someone gets killed, stare without any emotion at all because your soul is empty.

>>
>>384832362

Considering the type of relationship he had with her, I felt it was going to go down a weird route. I mean she pretty much said she fucked both her sons, right? His mom really is one of the most toxic characters I've seen in a movie in a long time, and she was there for all of maybe 20 minutes. Just that first scene with her arriving to the hotel was all you needed to know.
>>
>>384832661
Yeah she is a horrible person. Make you understand why Ryan's character and his brother are sick in the head
