the issue with competitive fighting game players is that they don't consider themselves good unless they can get out of pools at EVO, which is an obscenely high standard attainable by <1% of everyone who has ever tried

you can be in the top 10% with just dedicated practice and a passion for a game. more than adequate to obliterate your friends and top leaderboards

honestly you don't need to mess around in training much if you want to be at a 'decent' level (i.e. better than the average player online). if you just play more, you'll eventually get good. i find most fighting games is just learning what your opponents can do and learning how to punish moves appropriately

noobs always get obliterated because more experienced players will do some busted ass move over and over and they will have no idea how to react
