As a handheld/portable it has an atrocious battery life and is so large and heavy as to be unwieldy and uncomfortable. It also produces far too much heat and has very poor cooling.

Sorry but no one has the right to say which gen their console belongs to. They are classified into generations depending on what they can do and which engines they are compatible with.
WiiU was a 7th gen console still, "7.5" at best. It couldn't run the majority of engines PS4/Xbone/Switch are compatible with.
Switch isn't 9th gen either, it does nothing above a 8th gen system. If anything it JUST caught up to 8th gen, finally being compatible with the same engines and some functionality of 2013 8th gen systems, but even then ports seem to be an issue, with games like DQW2 running as bad as the Vita version, and Fifa not being the 8th gen port, but instead a 7th gen spin-off version.

But do tell: What does the Switch do that makes it 9th gen? I love how you guys never go into detail and simply generalize everything. Switch's online services are still inferior to 7th gen consoles (you can transfer save files to an HDD/USB, much less upload them online like last gen and current gen consoles - just a small example) and Switch doesn't run UnrealEngine5 or CryEngine8, because they don't exist yet, it runs the exact same engines as the other consoles. Every game made on Switch can easily be ported to Xbone/PS4 with no issues.

The Wii was 7th gen despite being unable to run more demanding games on the PS3 and Xbone, hell it literally got the same FIFA version as the PS2. The 3DS was weak as hell compared to the Vita despite both being in the same gen. Why would the Wii U and Switch be any different? You're pretty much the only one generalizing here.

PS2 was bad relative to Xbox but it still managed to run the same multiplats.
Switch is bad compared to PS4, but it still manages to run DragonQuest heroes 2 despite the drops to 18-20 fps. It can also run DragonBall FighterZ if ArcSys ports it. However WiiU can't possibly run either of those game no matter how much downgrading they do, because UnrealEngine4 isn't compatible with it.

No they pretty much have. It's been long established that PS4/Xbone/WiiU/3DS/Vita is 8th gen, 360/PS3/Wii/DS/PSP are 7th gen, PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/Dreamcast/GBA are 6th gen, etc. You can dispute the number of generations, but pretty much everyone agrees which consoles make up those gens. Just because you personally don't consider Wii 7th gen doesn't mean shit, it's 7th gen same whether you want to accept it or not.

Your standards are arbitrary and highly personalized. The Switch is 9th gen because it's a next gen platform from the 3DS platform (or Wii U if you want to argue it's a home console) which was last gen. A mid-gen release isn't the same as an entirely new generation platform. Nobody considers the PS4 Pro, Xbone X or New 3DS to be next gen because they're still the same platform as their predecessors.
