Terarria has some problems with difficulty curve and ores being irrelevant if you are lucky and find better ones early.
I once got lucky and got the fish pickaxe really early which let me skip multiple ores

I have a general idea but never made a real list of the best games for their price. Terraria, Risk of Rain, 100% OJ and Tabletop Sim pretty much give hours of entertainments for pennies in the long run. Just Cause 2, Starbound and others might also be on that list depending on friends but you can always find a group for Terraria any day of the week if you look hard enough. How shit they will be is a different story.

Fishing break the game, it just so many people are too lazy to even try it. A small stack of ~20% bait (fireflies are my goto) can last surprisingly long without any fishing bonuses. Get the best pre-hardmode pick and crates that let you skip mining hardmode until Plantera is worth the time spent catching a few butterflies on a good bug day if you hate mining as much as I do. Fishing is the lesser of the two evils but mostly due to how stupidly broken it is once you try it. I can't go back, mining just seem like a waste of time while making your world look like shit now for me.

It's cheap as fuck, even cheaper in the 4-pack, can run on toasters, is quick and easy to set up a dedicated server, a shitload of content and updates all free, delivered all their promises, the devs listen to the communitty, there's mod support and, while flawed, the game delivers it's objective in bot expected and unexpected ways.

I can't really think of anything else I could ask a game for.
I won't say it's the best game ever made, hell I'd say it's an 8/10 game, but you won't find a better game for that price. Probably one of the least buyers remorse in my life.

The game is too big for its own good, even without mods, your inventory gets full frequently because theres way too many shit to collect, to craft combine into another fuck, making you turning back home just as frequently as you get you complete your inventory storing your shit on chests.

Yes, expert mode is worth it. Terraria isn't hard at all once you past the initial difficulty spike. And that difficulty spike is mainly just learning the in's and out's of the game. Make buff potions, create arena, and that's it. I don't think it even adds any tedium since sometimes I feel mobs and bosses die too easy, especially when you have a groups of friends even with the hp scaling.
