For anybody who's new to the game, there are a lot of recommendations for the shoes from the app that have 4 slots total. That's great and all but rather than getting random shit you should be aiming to get gear that has good main abilities and then good sub abilities (though you can re-roll these), because most abilities in this game are trash and do virtually nothing useful for you, even if they sound good.

I'm sure people will figure out exactly which ones are the best ones this time around but the best ones in S1 were Stealth Squid, Stealth Jump, Ink Resistance, Ink Saver (Main) and Ink Refill. Things like "spend less time waiting to respawn" and "special refills faster" are utter garbage, if you've got stuff with that as a main ability, you can safely ignore it.

You know, I realized that when you get splatted, you actually fucking die. Only that you respawn.

If Inkling gets splatted with no pool of ink nearby to respawn in, does that mean it dies for real?

Yes, in ranked you only ink as much turf as you need to go from your spawn to the objective. Killing the enemies is by far the biggest priority so your team can secure the objective. Long range and high burst weapons are king there, rendering a lot of the strong ink turfing weapons like the Aerospray pretty useless.

In S1 there was a small issue where rollers were top tier in both turf wars and the ranked modes but they got nerfed pretty hard in S2, so it's mostly okay. If there's any tweaks, I'm betting it'll be the slosher, that's the only weapon that really stands out as a bit too much in both game modes right now.

Moray Towers can eat a dick. I swear it's the one map where the results are guaranteed to end in a curbstomp for either team. Higher ranked salmon run is also wrecking my anus. Those flying rocket assholes and umbrella shitters really fuck us over if we can't find them when they spawn.

What controller are people using to play? I don't own a Pro controller, but it seems like it'd be more comfortable than the joy-cons. At the moment, I'm holding one in each hand, but it can get really awkward if I need to turn quick.

Maybe you can help me on making a decision /v/. I plan on buying Sonic Mania and Kingdom Battle next month, but I will also have the money for Splatoon 2, but I have a problem. While I played and enjoyed Splatoon 1, I will be honest, I didn't like the multiplayer because when I was first starting out, I had no good gear abilities and would lose constantly. It wasn't till the fourth splatfest and constant re-rolls that I was able to finally get gear setups that I enjoyed. Gear setups such as dynamo tank, or dynamo ink saver to spam bombs from a distance, or speed based bubbler gun to ink fast, and bubble by the time I get caught. I had a lot of fun. Some questions I have are:
1. Did they fix the problem with gear abilities? So that when you gain enough points to get a ability, its not a fucking slot machine, and instead is a limited choice? Or when you re-roll, you can choose instead of it being a slot machine of luck?
2. Paid online. I have never supported paid online, and I feel like I never will.
3. Will lack of chat support hinder me if I were to play online? I ask this because I do not have a smartphone, so that's not a choice for me.
4. I believe hearing it stated that the game will be supported for just two years, that can't be true can it? Nintendo prides themselves on avoiding saturation with one franchise game per console generation on average, so Splatoon 2 will be supported till the end of the Switch's lifespan won't it?
5. I will be honest, I am REALLY turned off by Pearl after having seen some of her. She's ugly as sin, yet acts cute, and does all the things a cute spoiled brat would do, but doesn't have the looks to justify the attitude at all. I would easily alternate between Callie or Marie depending on splatfest subjects, but here, I would pretty much always be picking Marina because I hate Pearl so much.

Please help me choose if I will be getting this game or not, /v/. I will be playing through Zodiac Age in the mean time.

The basic roll is the same but they added ways to get what you want without pure luck. Now there are tickets for food and when you eat that food it increases the chance of gear having that ability. And when you reroll gear it turns the old abilities into ability chunks that you can use to buy specific stats for the gear you want. It's expensive to reroll for chunks but at least it's guaranteed.

The joycons have this weird thing where if you try turning really, really slowly to the right, the camera won't move. Especially noticeable at higher sensitivity. For completing the game, you get the base armor for multiplayer.
For completing every level with each weapon, you unlock the corresponding hero replica for multiplayer. These are just reskins of the base variant for each weapon class. The Hero Brella is not unlockable at this time.
After getting every upgrade, you are able to purchase the 1.5x food tickets for power eggs.
