You are some kind of a special type of retard though, gold is REALLY fucking useful in electronics and because it is aesthetically pleasing to people, it has an actual intrinsic value.

Gold backed currency hasn't been a thing for a long time now, but it is still genuinely worth money because it is so useful. Same thing with platinum and palladium.

There hasn't been any true confirmation of the performance of RX, that said it's supposed to parallel the 1080. As far as price is concerned AMD will have to make it competitive and so it will be cheaper. That said, waiting for the next console generation to drop is the best move as things stand so long as your card is capable of handling the resolution you want with an adequate framerate.

I actually care a bit about power consumption.
Not because of power bills or anything like that because i know it's negligible, it's just my PC doesn't really have the airflow to handle anything hotter than i've got now without getting too loud.
Also i've got a 550watt PSU and i dont know if it has enough amperage to handle a single card with over half its rated capacity.

Nope, worst case is the fans go, everything else will be fine. And let's not forget the fact that it's only been a couple months. The lifespan of a GPU is not adversely effected by mining. It poses the same level of risk that any used card does. In addition there is a huge incentive to RMA and refresh cards which can resell for higher margins, so you may well be getting cheaper new cards due to a massive supply bubble.
>>
>>384760613

That's just AMD, they've been the underdog since the Athlon ages. If they introduce the RX at a price point where it's competitive with the 1070 and the 1080 then they'll assimilate a huge portion of marketshare. The 970 is still one of the most popular cards according to Steam Survey, losing out only to older and inferior cards. The 1070 is gaining on it but still has a ways to go, this is likely due to the $79 increase over the 970, though. With the momentum coming from Ryzen and the cheaper chipsets and processors available and the RX coming into the system they could well make a whole AMD system far more justifiable. The R5 1600 OCs will an can parallel Intel's 7800x, and the remainder of their SKUs do pretty well if only marginally worse than their Intel counterparts. They also jump the starting line with genuinely affordable >6 CPUs so their towing the line for the next generation. Furthering this is their intention to move to 7nm sometime next year while Intel is still stuck at 10nm and have been for a whole year now, unable to produce marketable chips. Then factor considerations into the console market which they've dominated since the 360. They're well on the verge of shitting on all the competition again.
>>
>>384758742

Not overclocking is a good thing tard, overclocking shits on a cards shelf life even when done properly
>>
>>384764128
You will replace a card well before it dies from usage even at higher voltages and clocks.
>>
>>384763373
Im already aware of the compatibility issues with cf. But most games I play will utilize it.
>>
>>384763360
I don't know that I'd argue that the 7700K is a good price/performance piece myself. It's $340 vs. $299 for moar corz. Of course the Ryzen chipset is built to OC by default, and MFGs support it unlike with Intel where boards are able but not necessarily willing to OC, meaning you'll probably spend more money on a motherboard for Intel overclocking than you would for Ryzen OCs, though not necessarily.
>>
>>384764365
It's still better to get a single card.
>>
>>384764365
2 cards=MAX POWER
>>
>>384764128
When it's done properly it actually does not. X-TREME OCs can push components outside of their thermal threshold either excessively cold or hot, but regular air OCs with AIB partner equipment is very meticulous and very deliberate to ensure the cards remain stable and reliable at their peak, meaning they're not pushed to the point of excess. It's also an optimization game, you continuously decrease voltage to optimize thermals.
>>
>>384757276
You can run most games in mid-high settings just fine, and like other anons said it depends how well optimized the games are but it rarely drops below 30fps. I ran DOOM on ultra settings just fine between 40 and 50 fps.
>>
>>384764365

yes it is

you need 4096 * 2160 * 4 = 35 megabytes to just display one frame in 4k

it doesn't sound too bad but if we account for double/triple buffering, deferred rendering, postprocessing, antialiasing etc. so you end with multiple 4K frames being generated in GPU which quickly baloons up and takes up space that could be used for textures and model data
