If you haven't played a Persona game, get 5. It was my first and I fucking loved it. A lot of long time fans seemed a bit disapointed since it did not stray far from the original formula of the previous two games, but it's amazing for a newcomer. Its basically just your standard turn-based gameplay, the first was as bare bones as you could get since it was one of the first of its kind, if not THE first, hell your damaging and healing spells in DQ1 are literally just called hurt and heal, with the stronger versions being hurtmore and healmore. While it slightly evolves over time with newer games, its always very simple, but something about that simplicity makes it really fun to play.

I haven't been paying attention to XI news, are there any qts like Jessica?

Dragon Quest made it impossible for me to enjoy any other JRPG since it was my first series. I love how not in-depth but at the same time how enjoyable it is so much and I wouldn't mind if they just did yearly releases of new games with the same textures etc as the ds games.

I prefer the human characters but I just got the kids and I'm using monsters until they level up enough to take a beating and dish one out. Torneko's chapter in IV was my favorite because I always wanted to play a merchant and the sad thing is I rarely used him and Ragnar after the whole crew got together. IV was so unique in how it had characters going through the story and wish more rpgs did the seperate buildup. My team usually comprised of Meena, Maya, Alena, and the hero but any team was really viable. Wish I would have used Kiryl more as a healer but liked Meena too much.

Though it's still possible, it's a huge boring hassle beating dhoulmagus with no Multiheal (which I assume is the lv30 Angelo thing) , worse than grinding. The fight will take fucking ages because you will need to heal with 2 characters every turn. After you learn it it's easy as fuck and so is every other boss in the game.

I'll be playing the 3ds version because sadly I haven't gotten around to buying a ps4 yet, and also the 3ds version has furigana which will help me out occasionally.

I hope the game on the 3ds is not completely shit and poorly made compared to the ps4 one which judging by those pictures will look absolutely amazing. That is, assuming those pictures are legit and not just bullshots.

They're not though. Like half the series has job systems and the rest doesn't.
DQ7 is all about small vignettes that are integrated to the main story while DQ8 is all about it's main story including every city you visit being focused on it.
