I saw no reason to get Civ 6 over 5.

Dawn of War 3 looked an absolute state so I didn't play that either.

Wrong, formations are assumed by units automatically when conditions are right. Shield-bearers raise their shields themselves to protect themselves against arrows in a frontal arc, spearmen/halberdeers gain anti-cavalry stance automatically while standing still, some units gain defense against all stance while standing still and facing the threat and there are more examples of this in the game. The fact that the game does not require you to issue an order for the units to assume "formation" does not mean the functionality is not there, dumbfuck.

my personal answer would be something like this:

on the good side, we have:

1: more multiplat support than ever (destiny2, tons of xbox crossovers, MGSV, etc.)
2: better emulation than ever (literally Wii/WiiU and everything before 6th gen run the best games perfectly)
(not that this matters) 3: more games pushing the "graphics" envelope like Crysis did (see: Everspace, Hunter: Call of the Wild)
4: more fantastic indies than ever, most of which are ported to consoles later if at all (FURI and Hyper Light Drifter and Underrail come to mind)
5: more games in every genre, even "dead" genres are still getting releases (see: Overload, House of the Dying Sun, Cossacks 3, Brigador, etc.)

on the bad side:
1: way more f2p garbage than ever
2: way more gay shit than ever (steam selling porn hentais now)
3: the openness of the indie market allows lots of awful games to get made and get sold because liteally anywayone can do it
4: humble bundles / bundlestars / steam / origin / etc are actually killing the industry because of horribly low priced games
5: new shit like unreal engine 4 is still slowto be adopted because due to the market being shit, most people wouldr ather make a bad game in unity instead because it runs on the typical russian and BR machine.

Vamp cunts are annoying as fuck for the empire because no easy solution. Crossbows can fire on their flying units and can drain them pretty good. The big angry ground dude that regenerates can be easily slain by handgunners before it destroys your line. They have no ranged units other than their lord spells so you can use that to advantage if your microwave a unit of outriders you can take out their lord which will slowly deplete all their units health if there is no one to supply magic. Great swords work great of course chopping into them because of their anti inf specialist but they also have zombie Doge's and cav which make that a pain.

Confederation is exactly what you described, a power struggle. If your relations are above 100, you are good there and then must be more powerful than them to get them to Confederate. So if their armies get mopped up boom Confederate. Talab is usually very willing to Confederate even if power difference is only moderate.

That's something I really love about PC gaming. On consoles, there's this divide between an old generation and the current one. The old generation game runs at a lower resolution and probably won't work on your new system, so it gets stuck in a shoebox and left somewhere to be forgotten.

On PC though, a PC game is a PC game. Maybe you need to install some patches every few years, but you can be reasonably certain that if you have it, you can play it.

That isn't to say the playerbase will drop a fuckload. I'm an avid RO2 player and there is only 2ish servers worth playing on at any given moment. Still, it's a lot of fun and the community that stuck with it is very tight/avid with being in the game to win/have fun.

I wasn't a big fan of the map design, it felt way too cluttered and not really tactical at all.
The gunplay was great but the hit detection sucked for me.
Fov, mouse acceleration and fps cap had to be configured in the config file and made read only (not that of a big deal but still annyoing).

Is RS2 better?
