I adored OoT as a kid but once I removed my nostalgia goggles I agree its only ok. Its praise is overblown, it had a lot of flaws the developers obviously considered cause MM and OoT3D fixed some of them. Like OoTs retarded slow text crawling and seeming random text skipping or anything to do with fucking Iron Boots
Also Fire Temple a shit and it was always a shit.

It's one of those historical significance things. It's still a very good game, just not the godsend it was at the time. Game design and expectations have certainly evolved over the years.

Yeah I played this for the first time a few years back as well OP. It was fucking shit.

I just came to the conclusion that since Nintenyearsolds only had like 4-5 games on their console they had little else to compare it too, so accidentally considered a shit game good for lack of experiencing anything else. OoT is unironically one of the worst games I've ever played. It was so bad I had to drop it and put it down several times to play other games in between it, I just could barely bring myself to finish this piece of shit.

And before some fags tries to pretend it was difficulties with an old game, I regularly play games much much older than OoT all the time. OoT is just all around trash no matter when it was released. I mean fuck, I dropped OoT to play Shadow Warrior which came out a year before OoT and Shadow Warrior and Build Engine games in general are just fantastic. I know they are not comparable genres, but Shadow Warrior held up so well and was so fun while OoT was just a boring fucking slog I could not wait to just end it.

In order to enjoy a game like when it came out you need to be aware of what other offerings where out there.

Still the game is enjoyable. of course it has been surpassed mechanically, but it's remembered for what it did to vidya at the time.

I was forcing myself to beat it. I didn't even attempt the dungeon, I just stopped after finishing the previous one and couldn't be arsed to pick it up again.
