The biggest problem with this game isn't even the animations or the character designs. It's 100% the writing. I tried playing the game and just couldn't keep going. It is some of the most uninspired shit ever.

They thought they were so clever by replicating the citadel and tons of other shit. "They're taking technology from the old galaxy to the new one!" and wound up with this weird feeling of a cheap knockoff, despite the improved combat.

What you call "halting production arbitrarily in the middle" is actually Activision refusing yet another budget increase a few months before release. That release date was not the date Activision had scheduled for, it was the release date forced upon them due to Valve delaying the release of Half Life 2. Troika were far behind schedule and Activision had spent far more than they were prepared to making Bloodlines already. They had lost faith in Troika and weren't going to spend anymore on the game but they couldn't release it yet and so it sat in limbo until they could. That is not "halting production arbitrarily in the middle".

Finished the game yesterday and honestly I didn't even hate it. Maybe because it's because I didn't pay for it, but despite all the shit the game (rightful) gets, it's at least playable. The addition of the jetpack makes combat and movement much more enjoyable than the previous 3 ME games. It's honestly a shame that every other aspect of the game only ranges from 'passable' to 'mildly annoying and distracting'. I would have have been really excited for another trilogy but that's all been tossed out now that they've fucked up the first game.

In the increasingly unlikely event that a sequel gets made I really hope they learn from their mistakes. Like, maybe hire actual game developers to make the game next time.

At the very least this games disaster of a launch provided entertainment as it was spectacular to watch and laugh at.

Yeah, I completely agree. Most of the problems I personally have with the game aren't even gameplay related. The story is lackluster, the characters are shallow (though in their defense other me characters had 3 games worth of development compared to Andromedas only 1) the villain was boring and so was enemy variety, the dialog choices basically have no impact on the game and as a result Ryder really lacks personality. The animations are better wth the 1.05 patch but they're nowhere near the standard for a aaa game in 2017. Just lots of little things that accumulate into one big unremarkable game.

We know from the Kotaku interview that they wanted to have procedural generated content but couldn't get it working right so they scrapped it for hand made planets. But they later scrapped that again as it they initially wanted 30 planets. While I believe this was mismanaged, 18 months to make launch? I mean, I'm not a defender but, it's just hard to come to terms with this is how Mass Effect went out. This was EA's flagship IP from last generation and it's basically dead in this generation and they didn't give it more time.

Seems oddly similar to Metal Gear Solid 5 still needing more than 5 years to have a complete story arc, never mind it's obnoxious padded gameplay loop of Motherbase R&D and fultoning. Sorry fellows, it's hard to put in my mind that 18 months was all it took to ship Andromeda out the door with all its issues. We want games AND spectacular failures. Of course the customer is not always right, but you have to take into consideration the brand name for future games. If Bioware employees gets a reputation for insulting customers people will remember it. You may have already taken my money for this game, but you can fuck off for future purchases. When MEA came out, I knew immediately not to purchase it day one, and to wait and see. I got the impression that I was not their target audience anymore, which is fine - good luck to them.

Also, if you pull shit like take my money on a game, and then patch it into something I didn't buy you sure as hell I am going to remember it, and other people will remember it when your next game comes out. Just look at the shitshow surrounding the release of this game, and threads surrounding it. Bad buzz is not good and can kill a series if it does not sell.
