People were smarter back in the Usenet days so that was enough for people to start mocking it. But now that a much dumber generation has heard of it, a generation that believes anything it's told, there's no limit to how much people will fall for his lies.

The demo the exact same as the 1998 beta, the only difference is he changed the interface theme from brown to gray. The maps, mechanics and everything else are exactly the same. He hasn't been working on it.

I like what I've played of the demo. Only played it for a couple hours but it was already very exciting with something interesting happening at every turn. Not too long after I entered the dungeon I found myself opening up secret walls and paddling a boat in an underground canal, fending off killer fish, using a potion to find a fake wall and eventually getting slaughtered by a cursed mummy. I only stopped because I still have very little idea how the RPG system works and because it's obviously lacking content (Rangers with no bows?)

The only other game of this type that I've played to completion is Legend of Grimrock II and I could easily see this game being 100x better if it manages to be as packed with interesting stuff as the demo.

Its even like the genere is starved, since legend of grimrock came out it went trough a revival and there are plenty of options to choose from, so I doubt lots of people are excited about a game that looks like it belongs in Windows 95 and plays like the mouse was invented yesterday and the dev doesn't know how to work with it.

Based on the demo, the game will have narration at certain parts and you stumble upon vague writings that form a story, the demo has a journal system that logs stuff like those for review. The UI and controls in the Grimoire demo is already a huge improvement. Stuff like Lands of Lore and EotB I couldn't get into because I dislike their real-time clickfest combat. In Grimoire the previous actions you assigned in combat are remembered and you can hold enter to fast forward actions as they occur, it's really nice how the game has so many options during combat but at the same time you can just speed through trash mob encounters in like 5 seconds.

If it comes out I'll pirate it, it might be fun.

i mean yeah, there are some games you could call "harder" like ultra tough platformers like IWBTG/Boshy, Kaizo Mario, etc. but those games don't fuck the player in the ass at every step. i mean, Wizardry 4 is a turn based game, and the ghost of trebor moves in REALTIME and is an unavoidable instant death if he touches you, then there's the 3d ziggurat level, the spinning traps level, the requirement to have beaten wizardry 1 to answer one of the riddles.... W4 just tries so hard to ream the player in the god damn ass at every turn, so I'm interested to hear what you think is harder.

Wizardry 2 and 3 required importing a party from the previous game, so that's less a dick move and more just Greenberg and Woodhead thinking that's the only way a series can be played.

Most of them are serious. You can tell by the way individual posters change their tone. A troll would just use the situation getting worse as an excuse to get even more ridiculous. But when someone can't get enough of Cleve's dick then turns on him after he misses a date or something else happens, they're either dead serious or so many layers deep into trolling that we could never tell the difference.

Mostly because it's ridiculously imbalanced. Enemies are stupidly overpowered and the game doesn't really give you any way of dealing with anything. It's hard to believe it was designed by or for humans, because everything's so overwhelming that it doesn't even feel deliberate.

I'm a big fan of games that can be described as "tough but fair" and a skilled player can overcome any challenge, but that just sounds like bashing your head against a wall repeatedly until you somehow manage to make progress, and from what I've read, the game constantly autosaves, so any success could be quickly met with crushing defeat and starting over entirely.

Deathlord is really not worth playing. If you want a hard RPG, play Dark Heart of Uukrul. It might be harder than Wizardry 4, but it has good dungeon design and puzzles. It's clever instead of just an impossible tidal wave of bullshit.
