I'm not actually against it, i just wonder why they are such control freaks. I like the cut of Nintendo's jib, although sometimes it can go astray.

How do you figure that? It raises brand awareness more than any advertisement (the shortages were even in the news) and reminds people of their nostalgia. When people can't get one, they may look into alternative Nintendo products, and might even buy a Switch, or at least a few VC games. The shortages were definitely planned. Nintendo products look like they are in high demand, which increases people's desires to have one. They also look good by saying they're trying their best to meet demand, as if it's not their fault. And lastly, every one they sell makes it unlikely that person will buy those particular VC games, which means fewer people are buying Super Mario Bros for $5.
