They're insanely overpowered, by the way. You can call them three times a stage, they're invincible, and can charge their magic to do a second attack unlike Caim. Arioch in particular breaks the entire game - her charged magic attack drops several room clearing instakill blasts in a row, and you can do it as many times as you like until your magic meter runs out. You'll never take damage because even as you move between rooms the magic blasts are dropping down in front of you and emptying the room before you even step inside. It really speeds up some of the more boring fights.

Nier and Drakengard are pretty different in style and tone.

I think the first one has aged like milk mechanically, but I think it's worth seeing for the creative ideas it had for the time and the insane backstory it adds to everything.

Drakengard 3's harder to gauge. Some like it, some hate it. It's more of a weird dark comedy for a lot of the story, that makes it too jarringly different in tone for me to fully appreciate. The gameplay isn't as grating, but I still found it pretty hard to get through.

Heres what I took away from Drakengard 3 regarding the watcher lifecycle

>the flower infects a person, usually a woman
>this person becomes insanely powerful, literally a demigod in terms of power level
>the flower eventually grows and overtakes the host, turning them into a queen grotesquerie, who then uses it magic to eradicate the entire planet of life
>once its job is done, it travels to another parallel universe
>the smaller infant grotesqueries are its offspring, which it occasionally produces (the one in the first game becoming hyper preg before Caim and Angelus tackle it into another QPU is an example of this)
