Keyboards aren't inherently bad. A decent mechanical one can be comparable to a decent hitbox with the right setup, although maybe a bit less ergonomical. The only thing is that you obviously can't transfer those skills easily to actual arcade cabinets and wouldn't be able to use it in a lot of places. I'm not sure PS4s would recognize a keyboard, and that's what most places use as the standard for new fighting games.

Pretty sure all sticks that are PS4 compatible are also PC compatible since they're USB. The ones with buttons only are called a hit box. It's just a personal preference over a stick really. Makes some things easier to do and some things harder.

I have that same oversized actuator and a 2lb instead of the stock 1lb spring. I love it now, those small changes made it feel perfect.

Tightening up the activation and throw distance with the stiffer spring made it play so much quicker and more accurate. The parts are cheap and easy to switch out too.

I've had this stick for about 4 years but I think its time to get a new one. The start/select buttons don't work and messing with the wires doesn't do anything.

Any recommendations for sticks? I play on pc.
>>
>>384742607
didn't just buy it for the buttons, but for the quality case and easier modding features (also covers warranty for button/stick replacement unlike hori)

also a lot more wrist space which makes it more comfortable
>>
>>384744460
It's solid for home use and your buddy's house but you won't be allowed to use it at tournaments

The internals are pretty modular, so even if you hate how it feels (unlikely) you can swap the parts out cheaply

It's the best choice for beginners right now, because you probably don't care about having the tippity top tier of performance

If you wanna get a kinda similar feel to the hitbox try using a keyboard with good switches. More or less the same thing. A stick would be a lot cheaper starting out though so it wouldn't be a bad idea to start there.
Honestly speaking though, the controller really is just a matter of preference and you still have to put in the work getting used to and good with whatever controller you use.

Nothing is really better; all comes down to preference. To me, a Crown feels amazing with anything circular, such as half circles and any quarter-circle-into-half-circle stuff like in KoF; I also like its bat top. I feel that the Crowns really allow you to really yank on them, whereas my LS-40 has already became stiff and is indeed of silicone grease. My JLF wouldn't have lasted as long either.

Do note that if you play any other arcade games, the Crown will feel like absolute crap, except in games like NBA Jam/Hangtime where it replicates an American joystick 300% better.

Gangsta Rap.
I'm changing the button color and balltop color with it as well, the purple ones where leftovers from my first little mod job back when this shit had the stock Ryu art on it.

I was thinking between either yellow or red.Or maybe even pink

I have a friend who has one (he eventually went back to stick) and let me try it out a few times and no I couldn't get used to it, if a few hours trying it out isn't enough for you go look up reviews that aren't just paid "10/10 best thing ever"
>>
>>384748739

Slightly different situation. About the most broken thing you can do with one in SF is an easy instant-grounded SPD.

Not really. The artwork is glued to the plexi. Buttons and sticks are customizable but I think panthera has sanwas anyways so why bother.

If you want to get into modding I'd probably go with rap 4 since it's wider than something like a typical mayflash stick.

No, best way I've seen is just blowdrying it til the edge of the original art melts off then peeling and melting from there and buying a replacement from there

have you used keyboard already? try that for a while first. It's basically the same thing except with arcade buttons. I use WASD + numpad

Hey man, don't feel like that. 2014's USF4 was won by a motherfucker with a PS1 controller. Arcade sticks are certainly made with fighting games in mind, but you can do just as much with a pad.
>>
Which is better: Octagonal gate or square gate?
>>
>>384748981
>>384749229
The thing is, I'm complete shit on a pad anyway. I know I should just practice some more but doing a lot of motions, like a DP to end a combo, is just hard to me a lot of the time, especially anything that requires going from a down normal into a DP.

>>384749116
I really want to find a fightstick for cheap but I also want one that looks really freaking nice and has some nice art on it too.
>>
>>384749124
It's completely subjective and up to experience but I've had nothing but positive experience with usps most shit even comes in early. Whereas ups and fedex are always like pulling teeth and usually just ends with me going up to the fucking facility which is way to far away.
>>

See the $200 art can always be replaced later, the two top tier sticks right now (obsidian and panthera) are both in the $200 range. Stop wasting your money on other shit and save for a bit like most others.
>>
>>384738705
I just have one of those Hori mini sticks. Does everything I need, not nearly hardcore enough to bother with something more expensive.
>>
>>384745359
You shouldn't have to. Most just have clamps now. Even if you did need to a cheap soldering iron is only like 15 bucks and is super easy to do.
>>
>>384748049
I've been using one since 2011 and still like it. My reason for using one is because I emulated a lot of fighting games on my PC using a keyboard before then and it helped me transition easily. I also felt that I would be too twitchy using a stick. I don't think I'll use anything else, but I'm a part of the camp that says use whatever you feel the most comfortable with. The only criticism that I've heard that's valid is the placement of all the buttons, but that's more of a preference than anything else and you can always make it yourself. The criticism about being able to hold both left and right to block everything isn't valid since a lot of fighting games will reject both inputs if it's detected that way, leaving you in neutral and from what I've researched before, the hitbox itself will do the same.

Here's the 3 cheapest sticks that aren't shit. The Madcatz Alpha and the Hori Mini are pretty small sticks, but retain good build quality at a modest price (both hover around 60-80). If you don't want a small stick then you really would want to save up to 150$ to get your hands on the Hori RAP 4. Cheaper stick that retains fantastic build quality and easily accessible modding.

If you won't neither, then I have nothing for you. A big fightstick under 125$ is usually pretty bad in build quality (says the owner of a Qanba Q1).

It wasn't too hard, but I get a replacement plexi for mine because it cracked in shipping. You should be able to remove the current art that's printed directly on the plexi with nailpolish remover. I just wish Eightarc would make a Qanba that works with PC/PS4/ Xbone.
Or PC/PS4/PS3/ X360/Xbone. It's a dream really.
I'm really ready to buy the Qanba Drone, but does it have the same parts as my Qanba Q4? Does that matter? Am I worrying about it too much? I've been dying to get a second fight stick since I only have one, and if I get a new high-end stick that's better than my old Q4. Then anyone who I have over will say I have an advantage because of my stick.
I'm on the fence about it. If stick quality doesn't matter then I guess I'll just get the Mayflash F300 or F500.

TLDR: Looking for a good stick to use for second player. Must work with PC/PS4/XBONE

didn't future gootecks get 12-0 with a hitbox.
>>
>>384755313
some early TE sticks have issues with AMD based motherboards on PC iirc.
>>
>>384754818
it's supposed to come off that way
if you ever want to tighten it up, open up the back and hold a flathead screwdriver in the bottom of the shaft while you tighten the balltop with your other hand
>>
first fight stick i've bought and tinkered. it was the madcatz with the wwe stuff on it. I should have left the original image on it. Im looking to get another for tekken any reccomendations? I was looking at the IST makestick would it be better to build it using that as a base or spending 150-200 on an actual stick?

>>384756341
well then.
>>
>>384756341
it depends on how much you want to tinker with it
the makestick is compatible with korean sticks which most other sticks are not
do you want to build something with specific parts or just get something with full sanwa?
>>
>>384755762
I haven't had an issue with mine yet. I've been using it off an on the past year or so to play Skullgirls. When I boot up Guilty Gear tomorrow to get familiar with it I'll have to see if it'll be any issue with that. If it should work fine for PS4 or Xbone though that's the concern I suppose since I'd be buying an adapter basically just for tournaments since it's cheaper than a new stick or duelmodding something.

I was thinking of trying out a korean stick yeah. aside from that I'll probably use sanwa parts for the buttons and what not
>>
Looking into a new stick that I can mod, anyone have any suggestions? I only have a TE2 right now, but the color scheme isn't too good for what I want to do with it. Is the Etokki Omni worth the price for someone who wants to heavily mod it?
>>
>>384755697
well he's more of a personality now
and I don't think someone would be very comfortable on hitbox after using stick all their life
>>
>>384756663
then the makestick would be your best bet if you're looking for a standard fanta stick or the like
crown has made sticks that fit into sanwa mounting holes too
so I guess it's up to whether or not you want to put it together yourself

>>384756692

>>
>>384756692
why don't you just make your own?

>>384756692
You can mod TE2s son. As a matter of fact they were pretty easy to mod and parts were plentiful. Check Amazon.
Depending on how much you want to do, it may just be cheaper to buy individual parts and build yourself if you need a new stick instead.
>>
>>384756804
Sounds good. I don't mind messing around with parts, it feels rewarding once everything works. I'm glad this thread showed up, its nice to get some insight.
>>
>>384756804
Not really that heavy when it comes to modding, I guess. Most i'll probably do is some LEDs aside from the usual button change and plexi art. Real question was how easy is it to mod compared to others.

well swapping the parts out is as easy as with any other stick, really
art is just the top panel
LEDs, well, it seems that the current omni revision uses a brook pcb that can take an led breakout board
but if it uses anything else, modding in LEDs would be quite a bit more involved
>>
>>384756924
I thought about it, I might if I don't find anything to suit my needs.
>>384756953
I know they are easy to mod, It's just that i'd pretty much have to get a new enclosure completely to do what i'd want to do.

Still have the vanilla Sf4 TE sticks

I have a TE. I don't know if they can be modded for current gen, but swapping gates is pretty easy. I bought mine from Lizardlick back before the jew scurried away with everyones money and it took me all of 5 minutes to install. The only thing you need is a screwdriver to get the faceplate off from what I remember.

so what options are there for someone who wants to play on xb1 and ps4 both? ive noticed most sticks are exclusive to a platform
