I enjoyed the extra violent Batman combat, hunting orcs, and if you ended up getting killed (through horrible luck) how it managed to make the death feel more personal than in other games.

I actually really dislike the way LotR was written compared to the Hobbit. There was just something about it that I couldn't get immersed in and it all felt really dry to me. For everything it did wrong, I forgive the first one because dynamically characterizing random enemies is a excellent to sandbox storytelling and just a fun idea in general, and I kinda saw the whole first game as just a vessel for that and enjoyed the hell out of it despite the boring arkham combat and excuse plot as a result. I don't think I even finished it, just racked up a couple hundred hours messing around with orc leaders and watching how they progressed. It's a pity the fanfiction plot seems the be what most people take away from it, as opposed to the one good thing it did, giving enemies some personality.
