I actually bought 6 Mario Party games before ever completing a single 20-turn game with multiple people.

As shitty and with as much RNG as it has, Mario Party 1 has a unique sort of charm to it. Every character had their own board, certain events felt more cinematic, you even got tiny bits of lore about a map every time you collect a star. There were also the 1P mini-games and those mini-games where all four players had to actually work together (Running of the Bulb, Key-pa-Way).

Every other Mario Party is verifiably better, but the presentation and overall charm of MP1 shouldn't be ignored.
