BoF4 Ryu is quite shitty actually. The game gets carried by other members of central cast, especially Fou-Lu who should've been a full-fledged main character.

BoF3 Ryu got a very personal and quite crushing character arc that spans to the end of a game. He's one of a few things that BoF3 does better than BoF4 even though i think that 4 is overall better.

3 Ryu is a nothing-burger.

4 Ryu actually speaks (even if dialogue is not shown), rages and murders a dude, and creeps on cute girls in hot springs (jp-only version).

4 Ryu is better.
