>Loyal and faithful companion that was recently turned vampire doing everything he needed without question because the recently sired was too ignorant and new to understand the powers that play.

Not upholding the masquerade is bad for everyone. If too much attention is made, eventually someone on the outside will find out about the truth.

Probably not, siring a vampire requires a significant investiture of your personal power. It's not something that should be done lightly, at least not by a vampire that values their self-preservation.
>>

This.

Did no one play a game during the medieval portion of V:tM? When humans knew about Vampires, they were getting fucked up on the absolute daily. There were far more faithful and True Faith npc's that would just teleport out of danger or toss your ass into a fire.

You can also skip the entire basement section by getting close enough to the breaking stairs trigger to activate it then using the "go faster by running forward and strafing into a wall at the same time" thing to outrun the spot that pulls you into it.

Legit had a nightmare about the werewolf chase about a week ago for some odd reason. Haven't played the game in like a year.
>>
So I haven't played Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines in years. I'm also really fucking drunk. However, the game's fucking great. I remember it kind of falling apart gameplay wise in Hollywood, something about fireaxes and guns becoming really bad( keep in mind i'm just typing garbage) and that the ending's really cool but not very satisfying, so to speak. What I wanted to ask the people in the thread was what purpose were there for vampire clans and the hierarchy in game beyond class or race and the basic knowledge of big dude with bigger magic. I know that White Wolf owns the setting, or I think they do, and it was a really popular pen and paper set of games for a time or it wouldn't have had games made of it. Like I remember basic details, like gangrel being batshit, nosferatu being fuckugly, bruxa being the angey types, and then Ventrue being snobs and so on. Something about ancient dracula races bwing super grwat, which would bring armageddon to the world if awoken, etcetera. If someone could help me out i'd appreciate it. It's a cool game and I can't wait to get out of this desert and get a proper computer again.

I'm the drunk guy but yeah, it was. The game was actually pretty ahead of it's time in a ton of ways but god damn does Troika, or ex-Troika? have bad fucking habits when it comes to game design. vampire generations mean if you make a vampire they're weaker than you and so on. different clans have their powers and shit from the ones who started their clans who are the closest vamps to the first one.
>>
>>384707949
Is that DiMaggio's character? I don't recall. But seriously, does it have any value in the games? I know the clans, especially Malk which I misnamed as Gangrel for some reason get a ton of conversation options but what do the rest get? Malkavian dialogue is actually fucking crazy detailed.

Well. Most clans differ in the combination of disciplines you get. As you mentioned, Malkavians are worth a playthrough just for the voices and the dialogue you get. Nosferatu are worth playing if you like spelunking.

Other than that, its mostly for roleplaying.
>>
>>384708239
Each clan has a different ancestor they descend from and each have unique flaws and quirks that affect their character and abilities.
The generation thing is just for lore and plot and is a big part of the universe, it has no bearing on gameplay though.
>>
>>384708231
Well yeah, there's some vampire council that has or had representatives from all the clans except some bad one that was outcast for fuck knows what and they're all scared of Dracula Jesus but what do the clans represent in game? Like i'm pretty sure you mever meet the Malk leader, unless that's cover-art woman and her sister. I think you meet the Nosferatu or Gangrel or whatever leader but they suck ass and have little dialogue. Ventrue is Lacroix if I recall and they all drink wine from goblets and shit roses but they're all local leaders, not the big ups SECRET VAMPIRE BASE types. Except maybe DiMaggio?

Whatever you like. Guns are great midway but fall short late game until you get the Desert Eagle ( I think) but melee gets fucking silly mid to late game. I could be full of shit and almost certainly am but at the end of the day you have to choose which bit you wanna kill things with. The game isn't really hard, just janky and much like proper RPGs I think you can best the entire game using damn near whatever you want. Melee is easier, if I remember correctly.
>>
>>384709437
Melee; especially with high strength. You can knock people across the room. Unfortunately melee is useless late game.

>tfw no vampire hunter RPG
>>
>>384710008
Hunters are specifically designed to kill the other groups (except Mortals). Mid to late game, their powers are insane. Like they can just cut Mages off from magic entirely. Stop Werewolves from turning into Werewolves, stop Vampires from using Disciplines, etc. They can shoot fire like a D&D Mage, reattach their limbs, magically find anyone's chantry / lair / haven, etc. They can identify anyone of those creatures without them having done anything to identify themselves or realize that they're at risk from the Hunter at all.

Frankly, a Hunter can job a Demon in a straight fight too. The only reason the Demon stays just a bit further is the fact that it's the only splat where dying = not the end of the character. He just picks a new body and keeps going. Eventually, the Demon'll get the drop on the Hunter after enough times dying to him to be prepared.
>>
>>384710008
True faith is OP as fuck
>>
>>384710008
I dunno for sure but Hunters are probably just monster/vampire hunters. As such, you have a described list on how to kill the things you hunt. A typical human you can kill in a billion ways but a vampire, werewolf or demon? Those require precision. As you eliminate potential options you can simply become better at the options that remain. If I had to be staked to die and that was the only way I guarantee you some son of a bitch is going to find a way to stake me from orbit, because that's easy, clean and definitely messless ( for them). A specialist is always the winner in these settings, typically.
>>
>>384710417
>True Faith =/= Hunter
Any mortal can technically hunt any splat and call themselves a hunter, and that includes ones with True Faith. But in this case, the chart refers to the actual line of books called Hunter: The Reckoning, where they have powers and abilities that make the True Faith ability from earlier VtM books look garbage.

Also, vidya wise wasn't there a Vampire game that got canned at most 4 years back? I wonder how that would've gone.
>>
>>384710790
Sure. Gangrel are one of the thirteen major Vampire clans. They were formerly of the Camarilla, but by the End Nights, they left to be independent over a dispute with the rest of the Camarilla on whether the Antediluvians were real or not.

The way their clan flaw is supposed to work is that every time they give into the Beast and frenzy, they acquire a new animalistic trait. Now, they're not supposed to be all from the same animal (wolf ears, wolf eyes, wolf snout, wolf tail, etc.) but more chimerical to where older Gangrel look like a hodgepodge of dozens of creatures (chicken talons, lion mane, crocodile tail, bat ears, etc.)
>>
>>384710830
No, I'm talking oWoD. Hunter the Reckoning was one of the last line of books that White Wolf released, along with Demon the Fallen and Orpheus. All the True Faith stuff and Society of Leopold still technically exists, but the term "Hunter" now refers to something entirely different.
>>
>>384710804

>>
>>384711319
I think I remember that being the case. Like there was( and please correct me) Tremere, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Bruxa(e), Ventrue, and that's as far as I can get. The Camarilla are like the vampire cabal,if I remember, and there big deal is being absolutely fucking terrified of Dracula Jesus coming back to slap sense into them. Also potentially ending the world but small potatoes compared to power struggles. I'm not much of a vampire or werewolf guy but the Gothic aesthetic from Castlevania and so on has permanently sold me on cursed beings being fantastic interior and exterior decorators. Was glasses man a mage? I think that would make him Tremere. Also, and this is definitely for those teegee folks more than vidya but could you give me some advice on how to deal with a serious campaign, non-serious party?

The Clans are:
CAMARILLA
Ventrue: Aristocratic leaders
Tremere: Untrusted mages
Nosferatu: Deformed information brokers
Malkavians: Insane prophets
Brujah: Rebellious idealists
Tremere: Artistic dilettantes

SABBAT
Tzimisce: Cthulhian Slav-Lords
Lasombra: Edgy Spanish Shadowmasters

INDEPENDENT
Gangrel: Loner shapeshifters
Giovanni: Incestuous mafia necromancers
Assamite: Arabic Vampire Assassins
Followers of Set: Egyptian Vice dealers
Ravnos: Gypsy Illusionists

The Camarilla, by and large don't believe in "Dracula Jesus", though the Sabbat and many Anarchs and Independents do. The Camarilla is more concerned with humanity. After the Inquisition nearly wiped out all of Vampire kind some centuries back, the Camarilla institution was formed with laws to hide Vampires from mortals so that there was no great uprising to threaten them all again. It turns out that for all their power, when humanity rallies together, the Vampires got their asses handed to them.

The glasses guy, assuming you meant pic related, was actually a Gangrel scholar. Note the slitted cat eyes and him turning into a wolf earlier in the game.

All splats kind acknowledge but ultimately disregard the other splats, so when you play Vampire its the camarilla, in Mage its the technocrats
In the lore overall technocrats are aware of everyone else but only intervene in extreme circumstances

1. Not yet, but soon.
2. Jack was just the creator's masturbatory fanfiction. He was literally only capable of pulling off what he did because the story wanted him to, otherwise his stats were too low.

I'm gonna answer you in an awkward wsy but hey. Firstly, why are Tremere listed twice? Second, I was pretty sure I read something about all the vampire elders being fucking spooked about Vampire Jesus coming back and potentially stopping them from playing with mortals. Thirdly, the glasses guy I was mentioning is bald and you go to his mansion for missions. And yeah, making a vampiric sect of orderlies makes sense. Has something to do with procreating being REALLY FUCKING AWKWARD compared to humanity and genetic issues involving table legs to the heart.

>>
>>384713431
That was my point. Jack in the official lore can't do what Jack in the game did. The actual Jack, while he does like being a trickster, is 99% bruiser. He's not smart or skilled enough to do what he did in the game.

It's like making a Game of Thrones game and then having the twist be that the Mountain was the genius who played everyone at the end.
>>
>>384713226
All he did was kill all the people on the boat and replace what was in the box.
Everything after that was factions being paranoid and power hungry.

Why do taxes exist when everyone but the government hates them? If you don't try to impose order on your society they do what they like. The Camarilla, and by the way i'm assuredly full of shit, exists to force order on a society of super humans who drink the blood of humans to exist. If some SOB goes and chomps on some tweeny shit in the middle of a McDonald's there are going to be a lot of questions and even worse; a lot of punishment from humans. If you had to make your prey complacent you'd want rules too.

>>
>>384714520

>>
>>384714149
Because those powers never really come into play. 99% of the game is done on the fly, particularly in games with cross-venue settings. Most of what a Mage can do on the fly is little coincidental spells which when stacked up against the full strength of a Changeling's Arts or a Vampire's Disciplines, for example. And even if the Mage decided to blow himself up by spamming Vulgar magic, it really only brings him up to where everyone else was. Changelings, Werewolves, Vampires, Hunters, Demons? Every one of those venues have the ability to throw fireballs and it's no big deal. A Mage doing likewise would fuck himself with paradox.

It's why no Mage ever wins a fight. But they all sit out of character talking about never occurring hypothetical like
>if i knew that fight was coming two months in advance and i had access to my sanctum to spam rituals for the entire time in preparation for the fight and the ST ruling the scene allows me to questionably interpret some grey rules in my favor and-

Eyy everyone, I've heard a lot about vtmb, got it, just barely started playing it, kinda working on other games first, but I gotta say these threads make me hella hyped to play, and the game hasn't let down yet.

It's tough to try to avoid spoilers, and I know it's on me for entering this thread, but please consider putting major spoilers on spoiler tags.

I know there's something I'll choose to open or not and that's major but somehow I don't know what's inside, and it's a helluva incentive to progress.

Started with toraeador, mostly persuasion with a side of guns since I've been told I can't just speech through everything, and I already know I want to play a brujah, nosferatu and malkavian already.
>>
>>384715080

>your childhood friend's soul got replaced with a Changeling and periodically he comes to Ravage you, stealing your creativity and lifeforce
>been a blood doll for a Vampire for years, but can't remember it happening besides hazy late night hook ups and some anemia
>made a Faustian deal with a guy in a bar to try and lower the frequency of werewolf rapes, and now your literal Faith in God is being sucked out of you

Such is life for a Mortal.
>>
This is my favorite game but I don't get how people can replay it so much. After my first playthrough I essentially knew the story/interactions by heart. Whenever I get nostalgia and decide to play it through again I end up making a character and getting bored in Santa Monica.
>>
>>384715578
Pump up celerity discipline a bit and guns will be ez mode. The early game guns aren't great, but they're serviceable, once you get to Hollywood you'll start getting better hardware (and more combat).

Underworld is great campy action. Bad acting, good effects, bad story. But man they're fun. VTMB or VTM? are more along the lines of Anne Rice or Dracula. Maybe Blade if you take the games seriously. Take a chance to watch them. I think all told all five or six of them are like 10-12 hours of bad attempts at plot and some fun action. Best viewed when under the influence.
>>
>>384717776
That's the struggle between Saulot, Tzimisce and Tremere himself over the body of Tremere.
Saulot wins in the end.
Also there's one Gehenna scenario where they try to blood bond humanity and it backfires and makes the whole clan slaves to Tzimicse.
>>384717910
The domination part doesn't means he lowered his generation just that he got stronger and a bit older. Again, for the most part is speculation. Not that I disagree with you but there is little concrete evidence.

They never explained it because nobody can. It's one of the reasons nWoD would make a better video game, you don't have to pull stuff out of your ass to explain game mechanics. World sucks in nWoD though, at least most of it, compared to oWoD.

Yes and no. But mostly yes.
He was placed in an unwinnable situation by default by the clan elders, he REALLY wasn't supposed to be the leader of the city branch, compared to most of the rest of the major players he was the youngest by far.

THAT said however, he fucked up. Majorly. Trying to get the coffin in the first place screwed him over with EVERYONE. The killing of your sire was easily seen as a power play by everyone and definitely won him no allies and earned him the ire of them all.
Hell, by the end of it, you are more capable of running everything, provided you don't open it.

Good intentions of bringing order and stability to the city I guess, but he thought the only way to do it was to become extremely powerful and destroy everyone else. Strauss I think says that was his form of the beast taking over, driving him crazy wanting the power from the vampire in the coffin. He should've formed an alliance with the Anarchs early on for mutual protection against the Kuei-jin and Sabbat, and given them a bit of autonomy.

I hear this a lot, but
>All but the first level of Celerity are obvious supernatural acts
Is keeping it at 1 for "social" use viable since that's kind of the idea with toreadors? Or is speed boost 1 too weak against later-game enemies? I want to RP as much as I can on my build without having to end up with a gimped char.

>>
>>384720217
No point in keeping it at 1, it'd be a complete waste. Celerity not breaking the masquerade at 1 is for roleplaying purposes, just to show that it's a speed boost within mortal capabilities. Vampires use their disciplines if they have to fight whether they are brujah fighters or toreador socialites. Social characters in the tabletop don't skimp on upgrading combat disciplines, especially celerity, so max it asap.

Not to mention that celerity at 4-5 will make you fast enough to stealth your way within groups of NPCs, making you unseen due to how fast you move. So it's not just for combat.

I'd recommend avoiding all the posts in this thread except the ones addressed to you if you want to avoid spoilers, people in VTMB threads generally don't give a shit about protecting newcomers from spoilers. I've even seen people deliberately posting important plot spoilers just to spite everyone in the thread. Steer clear until you're done with the game.

That said, I consider it a mostly usless stat if you're the kind of person that likes to painstakingly explore everything in a room. You should be just fine without it.

Almost forgot, having >=3 inspection will allow you to call out a minor scheme plotted against you in the first hub, which can get you some extra dialogue lines and exp, but mostly for roleplaying purposes.

Thanks for the advice, but after several threads I find they really help me enjoy the game, without too many spoilers, even when anons try to be assholes. It's usually easy to notice lore blaberring before reading. Whatever has to be opened seems to be the high point, and it's still a surprise to me, so I THINK I'm doing fine.
I'm also a wiki nut, hardly ever playing any game blind, this being one of the few exceptions, aided by thread hints. I always have fun at the threads, then feel like playing a bit more, and it's a good experience overall. Not many games have threads like this on /v/.

>Info from Rik Schaffer regarding unused Bloodlines musical pieces:

>15.11.2011:

>Thank you for contacting me, and yes, they are real and were composed by me in early 2003 for Bloodlines. They are the very last of the unused tracks. Hollywood Hub part 2 and Open Season.

>You can use them. All I ask is that they are sent and shared to as many people as possible who enjoy and are moved by the music I created for Bloodlines. Of all the games I have worked on in the 15 years I've been doing this Bloodlines was the best because I was given free reign to write music without censor and drawing from my own life experiences. This is where the best music comes from for an artist.

>16.11.2011:

>There was talk early on of an East Los Angeles Hub for the game in one of the numerous production meetings I attended at Troika. I was thinking hispanic influence Nines Rodriquez with Open Season. Open Season would have been that area's main theme.

>Hollywood Hub part 2 was basically written the same week as the original Hollywood Hub. The name was a working title, and only because I thought that it would fit nicely wherever Troika ended up using the first Hollywood piece. I'm not really sure why it didn't get used, but if you want to stay true to the game I'd use it in Hollywood somewhere (maybe a club, etc.)...

>I wish I could help more but its been so many years... These are the last Bloodlines compositions that exist that haven't been previously released.

>16.06.2015 Email to Wesp5:

>There is one track that was a potential hub track and didn't fit. When I get
time in the future I'll look into mixing it. There might be actually two
pieces left.

>16.06.2015 Email to outstarwalker:

>I sent you some Bloodlines tracks that were never released, never were used in
the game (because they didn't quite fit), and that no one has ever heard.

>Afterwards twelve new tracks linked via Hightail by [email protected]

https://forums.planetvampire.com/bloodlines-games-general-discussion/7-new-unreleased-songs-from-rik-schaffer!/

They could be lying but they say they were in contact with Rik and he sent them unused music. He might've just recycled some of his older music for VtMB and didn't create them just for that if you're right. But he even says the songs didn't fit and that's why they weren't used, and a couple posts down wesp says he added a song into the game and it fits perfectly.
>>
Does Wesp still post in /v/?

I used to see him all the time at Vampire threads.
>>
>>384726253
Safe areas (hubs) are generally quite open so you will be seen. But in quest levels you can use the walls to hide effectively and run past NPCs as long as they don't directly look at you. Obviously if they look in your direction you will be detected. But doing stealth is MUCH easier with celerity.

>it seems unlikely that he would be contacting the player so early in the game.
Strauss did, you were pretty famous since he had all the major people gathered for your botched execution.
>>
>>384729523
True, but it seems like the only person who could've known what the PC was going to do and how powerful he would become would be Caine. It would be a huge and unnecessary risk for Grout or Jack to start contacting you in that way since you just seemed like a harmless vampire with no sire at that point.

Oh okay, I thought she might have had him killed or something. I did talk shit about Ming Xiao a couple of times but nothing to make him connect the dots.

So are there any theories that Kindred are the spawn of the Wyrm that aren't just doggie propaganda?

Free blood all the damn time. I never really used their racial benefit though, since I maxed charisma anyways.

I gathered that it was because you were too powerful at that point.
If you are a Machiavellian centuries old vampire lord you don't want anyone else to have access to power beside you. That is of course how you would last that long in that good of a condition.
Never mind the mere potential of someone having access to complete and total power that even you barely understand.
I have only played through the game once, so perhaps there is some opportunity I missed to betray him. If this hypothetical opportunity did exist it would serve to illustrate this point further. Still I think the theory holds enough water on its own to be plausible as is.
