Now for an actual, literal, objective fact, this game was probably about 8.

The new gameplay features aren't that great in this game - camouflage is just extra time wasted in the menu adding no challenge and Snake carrying thousand attires with himself that he can change instantly at any time certainly doesn't make the game more immersive. With normal difficulty the same applies to the wound system, I never was in any risk of running out of the necessary items to heal the wounds and like the camouflage it was handled in a totally unimmersive way. The food and stamina system were OK additions but they definitely weren't what made the game great.

The story I liked but I didn't like the stories of the two MGS games any less. So what makes MGS3 my favorite MGS, even if it sounds a bit dumb of a reason, probably simply boils down to the environment - sneaking in the jungle is just more fun than in the depressing gray environments of the first two games.

We get some of it in Peace Walker with the fallen soldiers and more hardened and aggressive personality. 5 was supposed to be where we really saw his descent into darkness, but we all know how that turned out. If you look at MGS3 as a singular piece tho, the setup of Big Boss as a fallen hero is amazing IMO, but I agree that it wasn't fully realized in the scope of the franchise as a whole.

MGS3 doesn't justify Big Boss, it just expands on some of the themes MG2 itself already touched on. The point is that Big Boss turned out to be a huge threat to the world whereas his mentor died to preserve it.

The frame rate sucks and you have to use the touch screen as the right analog stick unless you have a circle pad pro. I doubt it supports the new 3ds nub.

Pros are that you can do the mgs4/v crouch walk which can cut down on the tedium of going prone in a lot of situations, and you can make custom camo by using an actual photo taken by the 3ds camera. In my experience custom camos are stupidly overpowered, I had one that was mostly blue and it gave me 100% camo on nearly every surface in the game.

Overall it kinda sucks, I beat it but it was a fucking chore. And I'm someone thats beaten it on ps2 and ps3 20+ times and love the console versions.

I'm in the minority but I prefer the snake eater camera. I tend to use the original camera even when I'm playing subsistence

MGS : 8/10 great story, great gameplay, controls a little clunky
MGS2 : 10/10 " " " , " " ", The mind fuck of the promotional advertisements being so different than the game make it one of the greatest events in video game history. Nothing has topped it in the video game world.
MGS3: 9/10 " " ", " " ", great game but no great marketing ploy.
MGS4: 8/10 " " ", " " ", by far the most impressive game technically. But it tries to fit in too much from previous games making it a bloated mess of a story.
MGSPW: 4/10 The series was not a good fit for handheld systems.
MGSV: 8/10 great gameplay, but the story was a complete snooze fest. The game has great modding support.
