It's literally impossible to tell, the bit at the end of each game was that Ocelot always turns out to be some quintuple agent working toward some completely different goal than he claimed to be throughout the game. MGS autists insist this writing is "acceptable."

IIRC in MGS2 it was really Liquid, but in MGS4 it was self-hypnosis

In MGS2 it was Liquid's arm and in MGS4 it is a cyborg arm, you don't even hear Liquid's voice in MGS4
