Play it on the free to download hard mode and its one of the best jrpg released last gen. Not even kidding. Also the story being childish is because its laid out like that for story purpose of the villain ... it actually has some really good twists starting halfway.
You have to like turn based combat though.

It's actually pretty good, but definately download the hard mode dlc.
The jury is out on whether you'll like the cast or not. Some people hate Maro, others think he's cute, and so on, but overall the game is a nice experience.
It's one of the better-written JRPG's in recent memory. There's enough shenanigans with the story to keep you entertained.
It's definitely not going to win over any new JRPG fans though.
Also, it's got a very nice soundtrack, if you care about that sort of thing, Eternity memes aside.
