Resident Evil ports never stop impressing me, almost every single platform has ported game of Resident Evil.
I'm currently playing RE: Revelations on 3ds, it sure doesn't looks as better are the other versions but look really awesome for a 3ds game.

I bought a Wii for, among other things, the hype of Conduit 2 coming out. Played it for a couple hours before I realize it could've been a great game but was honestly pretty mediocre simply because it was on the Wii. I had already played hundreds of hours of MH Tri, and was also let down by Smash Bros Brawl, so I sold my Wii pretty much right after I realized Conduit sucked.

They compromised quite a bit, but its still quite an achievement.
But the reason why they managed to do that is due how playstation use MJPEG instead of MPEG.
Basically the PS1 CPU is too weak to deal with any sort of video compression, so it relies on a coprocessor that can handle JPEG like blocks.
But this coprocessor can't do the whole MPEG shtick that includes frames that are just a difference map from the last frame, or frames that are just instructions on how to deform the picture to generate the next frame.
And those save a fuckton of space if compared to just saving every frame.

And well, they managed to do it on the N64, but not on its main CPU, it is still too weak to do that, but the N64 has this powerful coprocessor DSP chip that offers 480MFlops of raw power, which was enough.

A Nintendo 64 CD would be quite impressive at playing videos IF they did an Mpeg decoder for it on the get go, and would be able to pull shit like storing FF7 on a single disc without any cuts.

I lol'd at the sound being an issue. I remember listening to Tommy Tallarico talk about RE2 sound design, and how much emphasis was put on something as little as the character's step (which, to be fair, is like the one thing you'll constantly hear throughout the game). Apparently, hundreds of samples were recorded. Then years later when porting the thing to the unyielding beast that is the N64 tech, sound is a roadblock that could have completely roadblocked the project had the team not gotten lucky by "knowing a guy."

It's all history now, of course.
