OP, try to aim for their heads of knees so you can perform the melee action and do some free damage (you can even use the knife on the enemies that fall).

I played this a lot when younger, ammo is not as scarce if you manage it well. Of course you can't always use the shotgun or miss every shot.

Its almost like the game is survival horror. What the did you think you were signing up for; item conservation is where most of the tension in these games comes from. RE4 is frankly really lenient for the genre.

Seriously? I always felt like the game gave you way too much ammo. I don't recall ever running out. That's actually been one of my biggest complaints, that it didn't feel enough like survival horror because you're armed to the teeth.

OP it might help to sell off some weapons so you can horde ammo for 1 or 2 of them. Enemies will only drop ammo for guns you own, you can get by with the starting pistol and shotgun for the first half of the game pretty comfortably. In fact you should hold onto the starting pistol indefinitely since it's the best pistol when fully upgraded.

Also use melee combat. Shoot the infected till they recoil, run up and smash the prompt button to kick them down, and then knife them once or twice and they should die. The kick is good because you get invincibility frames and it has a splash effect.

You meme'd yourself by being a dullard. Shoot them in the head or knees to stun them and follow that up with kicks, use the knife to finish off lone enemies after knocking them down, flash grenades destroy las plagas instantly. It's also programmed in a way where it gives you the drops you need. If you think the ammo is scarce then you're a hoarder.

I was kinda young when re4 first released and not knowing any better had a hard time trying to blast through everything. Once I learned to kneecap/kick/knife I was drowning in ammo most of the game.

yeah I think you're pretty much meant to be herded into the house immediately. It's the first open door you see on the screen.

also hindsight is 20/20, I remember panicking like crazy the first time I played through that scene, especially when I heard the chainsaw starting up. It took me a couple tries before I calmed down and after that it's pretty much a breeze.

you might have been able to drop them off at the merchants but I don't really recall ever doing that so who knows? Fish was also pretty common in the game, basically any source of water had something swimming around in it. The best healing item imo were the golden eggs tho.

and yeah the punisher was fun as fuck, really all the guns in the game felt usable and the way ammo was handled you could just focus on using one type of weapon.
