I want to buy a Gamecube controller. Am I better off hunting down an official Nintendo one or will any of the third party brand controllers suffice?

the official ones are great the only difference they have compared to the old ones are the shoulder button springs being stiffer in the newer models.
If thats not to your liking you can always find a junked gc controller at your local second hand game store to replace them with
Which 3rd party brands? The generic ones are abject trash. Not even worth the materials they're made with. The ones that plug into Wiimotes aren't Gamecube controllers. They're Wii pro controllers that look like Gamecube controllers.

Depends. What do you need it for?
don't get the controllers that look like gc controllers with character skins like Mario or samosa, they're just Wii U classic controllers and they control like shit.
your better off buying an official one and an adapter
Check thrift stores before going into the scalper zone.

You can find one with a smash emblem on it with relative ease. Problem is they're around 50 bucks.
I fucking knew I should have picked up more when they were more widely available.
You aren't going to use it for "COMPETITIVE" Smash right?
