nah, you're completely wrong. half-life 2 in 2004 was the only game at the time to really make the idea of a AAA PC centric game still seem feasable after the massive success of the 6th generation. steam, while shitty and bloated at launch, replaced and killed every other form of toxic DRM that existed in the form of securom, cd keys, and disk checks. PC gaming got better when steam won circa 2008
