If you're a member, there are a lot of quests you can do that will take you straight to mid levels in many useful skills, especially in melee combat.

I think there's one raid now. Most pvm content is just a boss on its own and can be completed solo.

Runescape is great in one regard: quest.
Many of which have skill requirements. To do all quests. All 250+, you must have 80+ in all. Is it worth it? yes.
RS is ridiculously good in the quest depart. I wouldn't complain about the grinding bullshit either honestly, as you can watch TV.

You should start with F2P until you beat all quests and level up several skills. Yes, you can jump to membership but there's no demand. There's a lot of stuff to do before being a member.
