Also of course It's already full of plebs. Perhaps the site is worthwhile solely for inviting people with bad taste to write in aloft semi-pretentious ways which makes it hilarious as they try to defend their really bad opinions (in like two brief paragraphs of course). Half of them are Tim Rogers if Tim Rogers was serious about his MGS2 essay and the other half are Icycalm if Icycalm was Christian. Everyone is trying to one-up each other's hipsterism. They prattle about how Tetris isn't actually that good, man. It's magnificent.

To put their taste into perspective, they consider Bioshock Infinite to be a 3.40 (of 5), Another World to be a 3.39, and Pong to be a whopping 2.51.
Undertale is 0.17 points higher than Tetris.
MGS2 is above all of them.

But to be fair I have pretty shit entry-level hipster garbage taste in music and can't write good reviews

RYM was dedicated to music and to a lesser extent films, so obviously its current userbase aren't vidya connoisseurs. But who gives a shit about their taste. What made RYM cool is the big database of genres, subgenres/influences, time periods, countries, descriptors and all that. It's much more detailed than any other music or film sites out there. Now that format will be applied to videogames. That's fucking great.
